Susan McCarthy, associate professor of nursing,
reacted with surprise when President Barbara Risser
announced her name as the recipient of the third
annual FLCC Spirit Award. In President Risser’s words,
this award honors “… a collective passion on
this campus — a genuine pride in who we are
and the work that we do. We see it reflected
on the faces of the people who have made
this College their life’s work, and they quietly
pass it along to those who follow them.”
Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb ’71
and his wife, Lauren, hold his Distinguished
Alumni Award plaque. The celebration included
an announcement of a newly created scholarship,
the Brian M. Kolb Leadership Award. Gifts from
several of Brian’s friends established it as a tribute
to a long-time friend of the college and highly
successful alum.

nursing clAss grAduAtEs
the pass rate for finger lakes community college nursing
students on the national council licensure examination
for registered nurses for first-time test takers was 96.36
percent for the 2011 graduating class. flcc’s pass rate
ranks in the top 10 of the approximately 100 associate and
bachelor’s degree nursing programs in the state. the average
pass rate for first-time test takers for 2011 for all new york
associate and bachelor’s degree programs was 84 percent.
