The newly opened Student Center was the setting for the May 18 Alumni Awards Celebration.
Award recipients are pictured to the left (left to right) with Alumni Association President Ethan Fogg ’00:
Donna P. Smith ’81, Outstanding Nursing Alumni Achievement Award; Brian M. Kolb ’71, Distinguished
Alumni Award; Matt Hill ’97, Athletic Hall of Fame inductee; Erica Koch Bapst ’98, Outstanding Alumni
Art Achievement Award. Missing from the photo were Justin Stevenson ’97, Outstanding Conservation Alumni
Achievement Award; and David Swarthout ’79, Outstanding Horticulture Alumni Achievement Award.
In addition, the 2012 Exceptional Service Award recognized more than 100 alumni who have served on the
governing boards of the Alumni Association since it was established in 1974. Arlene Rudat Morley ’71, the first
Alumni Association president accepted the award on behalf of the group (photo lower left). Arlene, the mother
of four in 1968 when she entered CCFL, had completed her bachelor’s degree and was working full-time when
Al Corbit asked her to serve. She expressed her gratitude
regarding the creation of CCFL, which offered the start
she needed for a career as a speech language therapist.
