CLASS NOTES Trena Paulus ’91, Ph.D., recently received tenure and was promoted to associate professor at the University of Tennessee. Trena in the educational psychology and counseling department, where she researches aspects of online learning environments. Becky (Coy) Katsaropoulos ’92 is a registered nurse and currently a stay-at-home mom. She and her husband, John, have five children. The family resides in South Bend, Ind. Chandrika Fonseka ’94 earned her master’s in business administration for human resource management and marketing from the University of Manipal India. Tony Gambaiani ’95 recently was one of eight bankers from six states recognized as a “Rising Star in Banking” by the Northwestern Financial Review. Readers from across the Midwest nominated bankers who have distinguished themselves by their accomplishments, both in their banks and communities, and are poised to make significant contributions to the industry for years to come. Andy Bass ’96 and his wife, Jenni, are the parents of a daughter, Deborah Claire, born on Sept. 9, 2009. She is the couple’s fourth child. Andy teaches and coaches football and baseball at Greenwood High School. He recently was honored at the IHSBCA North- South All Star Series. The family resides in Greenwood, Ind. Karen (Nelson) Heavin ’96 was elected one of three new directors of the Putnam County Community Foundation in June 2009. She also serves Warren Township of Putnam County as a trustee. Her previous experience includes working as a traveling financial field consultant for International Dairy Queen and working as a fundraiser for an economic development corporation in Illinois. She is active in numerous civic organizations and the Cloverdale Methodist Church. She and her husband, Dr. Anthony Heavin, live on a cattle farm with their sons, Garrett and Brock. Rachel (Peden) McCarty ’96 and her husband, Cullen, are the parents of a daughter, Josie Anne, A very Franklin family George Anderson ’59, a retired real estate agent, and his wife, Barbara (Gamble) ’60, a retired teacher, are proud that their three daughters are Franklin College graduates. Now, a third generation of the family is attending Franklin. Elizabeth Burpo ’10 and Laura Burpo ’12 are the daughters of Brad Burpo ’82 and his wife, Pam (Anderson) ’84. Pam is a fifth-grade teacher with Lebanon Community Schools, and Brad is vice president of Clear Channel Media. Kim (Anderson) Arrowood ’87 is a PE teacher with the Tippecanoe School Corp., and her husband, Derek, is superintendent of Sheridan Community Schools. They have two children, who attend Tippecanoe schools. Amy (Anderson) Godby ’89 is a kindergarten teacher with Lebanon Community Schools, and her husband, Jeff, is an owner of Godby Home Furnishings. They have two children, who also attend Lebanon. George and Barbara say they are hoping the younger grandchildren might someday choose Franklin. born on March 12, 2009. She is the couple’s first child. Rachel was the Monroe County historian and absentee voting supervisor for Monroe County and is now a homemaker. Her husband co-owns Smithville, a telecommunications company. The family resides in Ellettsville, Ind. Heather Willis Neal ’97 recently began a new position as deputy chief of staff at the Indiana Department of Education. She previously served as the Indiana governor’s public access counselor. She and her husband, Davey, have two children and reside in Indianapolis. Scott Sherry ’97, Whiteland High School head baseball coach, was recently honored at the IHSBCA North-South All Star Series. Jarrod Brett ’98 recently accepted a newly created position with Franklin College, coordinator of student achievement. In this role, he focuses on student retention and helps the individuals who are at risk of an incomplete college career due to financial hardship or poor academic performance. He is in his seventh year as assistant men’s basketball coach at the college, where he’s also an adjunct history teacher. Jarrod and his wife, Jennifer, reside in Franklin. Amy (Powers) Telscher ’98 and her husband, Jim, are the parents of a son, Nathaniel Charles, born on June 19, 2009. He joins a brother, Ben. The family resides in Cincinnati. Jeff Carroll ’99 is a first-year law student. He and his wife, Kelley (Kennedy) ’99, reside in Ann Arbor, Mich. special education teacher at Maconaquah High School, and Shannon left teaching to help his father with the family motorcycle business. They reside in Logansport, Ind. Dustin Close ’99 and Hillary Spike married on July 18, 2009, during a garden ceremony in Indianapolis. He is the business manager for Clarke Engineering Services in Fishers, Ind. She is an associate with the law firm of Barnes & Thornburg in Indianapolis. They are living in Indianapolis. Melissa (Padgett) Hayes ’99 and her husband, Brian, are the parents of twin boys, Hudson Michael and Asher Padgett, born on July 22. The family lives in Mount Clemens, Mich. Patsy (Garrett) Koepke ’99 and her husband, Steven, are the parents of a son, Noah Ray, born on June 24, 2009. Eric Richards ’99 recently joined Indianapolis-based Little Red Door Cancer Agency as director of development. The ’00s Kristin (Black) Beck ’01 and her husband, Clint, are the parents of a daughter, Kelsey Rose, born on Aug. 13, 2009. She joins a brother, Tyler. The family resides in Whiteland, Ind. Megan (Smeltzer) Rogers ’01 and her husband, Stuart, are the parents of a son, Noah Stephen, born on July 15. He joins a brother, Cameron, 6. The family lives in Columbus, Ohio. Amanda (Vaught) Crismore ’02 and her husband, Jared, are the parents of a son, Clay Everett, born on Dec. 5, 2008. Both Amanda and Jared are teachers at Martinsville East Middle School. The family resides in Martinsville, Ind. Jasmine (Hansen) Schwartz ’02 and her husband, David, are the parents of a daughter, Zeely Jade, born on Nov. 9, 2008. She joins two brothers, Noah and Matthew. The family resides in Greenwood, Ind. Erika (Craig) Johnson ’03 is a senior buyer for Hendricks Regional Health in Danville, Ind. She will graduate from Indiana Wesleyan University with her master’s degree in December 2009. Tanis (Gibbs) Monday ’03 is the Putnam County Museum’s associate director. She and her husband, David, have a son, Gustus, 3. The family resides in Greencastle, Ind. Justin Roberts ’03, a lieutenant, is the company fire support officer with the 5th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armor Division at Fort Bliss, Texas. Jennifer Bennett ’04 is living in Bogotá, Colombia, working for Chevron. Dan Frische ’04 and his wife, Molly (Crone) ’04, are the parents of a son, Mason James, born on May 13, 2009. Dan recently joined the Franklin College Institutional Advancement Office as an advancement associate. He previously was a territory manager with JMC Sales & Engineering. Molly works for Community East Hospital as an athletic trainer. The family resides in Trafalgar, Ind. Chris Lakes ’04 and his wife, Melissa (Weaver) ’04, are the parents of a son, Zachary Christopher, born on July 26, 2009. Chris teaches special education students at Southwestern High School, and Adventures in Asia Amanda Fletcher ’09, Dana Sease ’08, Wendy Gould ’08, Lauren McCombs ’10 and Jennifer Phillips ’06 wear Franklin College T-shirts during a night on the town in Seoul, South Korea. Wendy lives in Hanam, South Korea, where she teaches English to elementary students. Dana lives in Kuji, Japan, where she teaches English to elementary students. Amanda, Lauren and Jennifer made a special trip to Asia over the summer to do some sight-seeing with their college friends. Melissa teaches at Shelbyville High School. Melissa also recently completed a master’s degree in education. The family resides in Shelbyville, Ind. Terry Kinnett ’05 and Danielle Gibbs ’06 married on April 25, 2009, in Franklin, Ind. They are living in Franklin. Ashley Malloy ’05 is working as an athletic trainer for Faulkner University in Montgomery, Ala. Nisha (Craig) Riggs ’05 and her husband, Adam, are the parents of a son, Landon, born on Sept. 2. He joins a sister, Sophie. The family resides in Eagle Mountain, Utah. Lindsay Baker ’06 and Tim Cooper ’04 married at Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church on July 10, 2009. Alumni in the wedding party included Lindsay Schilling ’08, Ryan Skirvin, Jason Schilk ’04 and Jon Buck ’05. After a honeymoon to Negril, Jamaica, they are residing in Indianapolis. Kara Campbell ’06 is serving as the head athletic trainer for Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Ala.
