10 things you need to know about Alumni Council
■ The Franklin College Alumni
Association is a group for all graduates
and former students; membership is
implicit and free. The association
provides a variety of benefits and
services that help alumni maintain
connections to Franklin and fellow
graduates.
■ The Franklin College Alumni
Association was formed in June 1855
and began with just nine graduates.
■ The Alumni Council is an elected group
of volunteers who represent and give a
voice to the Alumni Association.
■ The council has 30 elected members
and three appointed members, who
also serve as representatives to the
board of trustees.
■ The current council includes 18 men
and 14 women, who represent
graduation classes ranging from the
1940s to the 2000s.
■ Twenty-seven council members are
affiliated with a Greek organization,
and six are independent.
■ Council members engage in projects,
programs and activities that help
support the Franklin College mission of
preparing young people for significant
careers through the liberal arts.
■ There are four sub-committees of the
council:
■ Admissions — Members assist in
student recruitment.
■ Alumni career networking —
Members look for ways to engage
alumni in career networking, not
just with young alums, but with the
entire alumni base.
■ Development — Members help the
Office of Institutional Advancement
with efforts to raise awareness of the
Franklin Fund and other college
priorities.
■ Greek Alumni Council — Members
are investigating the formation of a
GAC to help strengthen the Greek
system at Franklin College.
■ The Alumni Council maintains an
annual 100 percent participation goal
in giving to the Franklin Fund.
■ The Alumni Council reviews a slate of
nominees every spring. If you’d like to
