Worthy President’s Message:
Dear Brothers….
Ah… spring is finally here. We are shaking off the cold, wet weather (hopefully), the trees and flowers
are blooming, and the grass is growing. This is also the busiest time of year at the Eagles. In the past few
weeks we hosted a visitation from the Tacoma 3 Eagles, held a benefit for Fisher House, assisted Fathoms ‘o
Fun at the Easter Egg Hunt, held our annual Joint Memorial recognizing those members that have passed on
this past year, held numerous dinners to raise funds for new carpeting, upgrading our bar, and funding new
blazers for Aerie Officers.
The Ramblin’ Eagles RV Club held their first outing of the year at Harstene Island, and for those that
are interested, they are always looking for new members to share the fun.
On May 11, 2013, we will be holding our Outgoing Dinner for Officers and Trustees; our annual
Mothers Day Breakfast on May 12, 2013; and the Annual
Blue/Gold Dinner on May 23, 2013, which recognizes those that
Upcoming Events
serve and protect us in the military.
May 11th: Outgoing Dinner
May 12th: Mother’s Day Breakfast
May 23rd: Blue Star/Gold Star
Dinner
May 2013
Not to be overlooked, on June 1 st we will be conducting
our Installation of New Officers and Trustees. If you were to add
in the weekly bands on Fridays and Sundays, Poker on Thursdays
and Saturdays, Public Bingo on Sundays, Mondays, and Wednesdays,
and Bar Stool Bingo on Fridays, you will see that we are a
very busy club.
Additionally, we have been very busy making improvements/repairs
around the club. Some of these include electrical
repairs both inside and outside the club (thanks Nestor, Roy,
Darby, Ken, Bob D.); per a suggestion from our local Fire Department
we are cleaning and purging some of our storage areas
(thanks Roy, Ken, Darby, Ed, Gary); and with spring comes the
return to mowing, weeding, cleaning, etc., to the outside premises
(thanks again to Ken, Roy, Darby, Ed, Gary).
Please remember that this is your Aerie and I encourage
each of you to take a break from your chores at home and stop by
the club to see what is going on, and attend some of the upcoming
activities. It will give you a chance to see old friends, make new
ones, and give you an opportunity to relax a bit. See you at the
Club. Tom Riedel, Worthy Vice President
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Volunteers needed to help out in the kitchen and bingo. On
the Aerie side of Bingo the dedicated volunteers have put in two
days a week for four to five years, the kitchen has one volunteer
and one cook to cover three bingo sessions.
To work in the kitchen you must be a member of the Eagles
and have a up to date food handlers card. Anyone interested can
contact the Aerie bingo manager Sue Vanden Bos on Sunday or
Wednesday @360 874 6705 after 4:00pm and the Auxiliary bingo
manager Monday @360 874 6705 after 4:00pm.
To contact the kitchen manager, Ed Gadberry, call 360 874
6705 on Sunday Monday or Wednesday after 3:00pm. We try not
to turn anybody away but, there can be too many volunteers at one
session. Instead of calling, come in and see us. THANK YOU
FINAL PAST PRESIDENTS MEETING
UNTIL SEPTEMBER!!
The Past Presidents will be meeting on Wednesday, May
14, 2013.
The club needs the support of all its members and especially
to get along and work together. We need your input! Please attend
this final meeting before we adjourn for summer.
DINNER AND AUCTION
I would like to thank all the volunteers
and great people who enjoyed the meatloaf dinner
and auction on April 6, 2013.
It was a great dinner prepared by John
Barrier. We had special people come and perform
the auction and want to especially thank these two men.
This dinner and auction was to support Mary Bridge Children’s
Hospital and Fisher House.
Thank you again to all who participated and to all volunteers...you
are greatly appreciated!
RAMBLIN’ EAGLES NEWS
The following campouts
have been scheduled:
May 16-19: Belfair Eagles
July 18-21: Hoquiam River RV
CRAFTY CREW LADIES
We continue to work on projects to help
our community, so if you know of a local organization
that needs some help, come see us on
Wednesdays at the club!
HOBO STEW COOK-OFF
Linda Simpson and Vance
Vaught conducted an extremely successful
fundraiser for Fisher House. Seventeen
crockpots of stew were judged by Mayor Tim Mathis,
City Councilman Fred Chang, Washington State Trustee
Frank Santa Cruz and Past Washington State President Bill
“Garfield” Stotbo.
Darby Davies finished first with his “kinda spicy”
stew. Tom Bickle, who makes his own dog food, modified
that recipe slightly to come in second. Linda Simpson
placed third with her hearty entrée.
In addition to the $1012.00 donated to Fisher
House, a “hat” was passed to support the JNROTC Program
who provided a color guard as well as volunteered to
“bus” tables; they received $165.00. Their cadets presented
a plaque to Aerie President, Tom Riedel, to thank
the Eagles for raising over $500.00 to send two of their cadets
to compete in an air rifle competition in Salt Lake
City, Utah, earlier this year.
Our next major event will be the Blue Star/Gold
Star Dinner on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at 5:00pm. Cost
of dinner for non-military is $6.00.
The Hobo Stew Cook-off Winners!!!!
And everyone else…..thank
you all for participating
(and eating all that stew)!

REAC
Connie, from Martha & Mary at Home, was there before the meeting to take blood pressures. She
will be there for the hour before each meeting. It’s free, so please utilize this opportunity.
Shirl, who is VP, conducted the meeting with Neil coaching her through it. There was an invitation
to attend Buckley Eagles 36 th REAC anniversary on Sunday May 19, 2013. If anyone is interested, please
see Gayle.
Myrt Kneeland sent a note about life in Snohomish County, and also included her address and phone
number for anyone wanting to contact her; please see Gayle for this information. Marge Endsley is at Ridgemont
in room 403; she is doing good and would love having visitors. Betty’s cast is off but she is still at
Life Care Center; stop by and see her when you can.
Our picnic will be held in July 2013. On September 28, 2013, there will be a free dinner for everyone
who has ever been an officer in the club. You can bring guests who will also enjoy a free dinner. Mark
your calendar.
One of our REAC members requested a speaker on gardening for Seniors. I already have May and
June taken, but I’ll do my best to see if I can juggle speakers.
We had one birthday: Steve’s. There were no anniversaries. The door prize was won by Shirl and
Bill, and Shirl won the 50/50 as well. If anyone wants to take the REAC photo album home to look at it,
please let me know.
Just a reminder: if you have a gripe or complaint about something, take it to Neil and not to other
members.
Our next meeting is May 9, 2013; there will be no potluck; we are going to China Sun after our
Yes, this is another “thank you” from Ken
Bicha….
Yes, indeed! This time it is for three events held on
Saturday, March 30, 2013. Beginning at 10:00am, Joe
Petrowski, Deane Robinson, Joyce Moreau and I provided
parking for the Fathoms o’Fun Easter Egg Hunt at Jackson
Park here in Port Orchard.
At 2:30pm, Tacoma Aerie #3 stopped by for a short
visitation and were greeted and “entertained” by Neil Lively,
Dave Severtsen, Tom Riedel, Roy Denson, Sharon and Ed
Gadberry and I. Kitty Bickle pitched in and helped Martha
Koslowski tend bar.
All day long, starting at “O-Dark Thirty” Don Smith,
Ed and Sharon Gadberry cooked and prepared a super prime
rib dinner. Shirl Smith set the tables and sold tickets to the
event and Debbie and Darby Davies and Steve Stavnicki
helped with serving and cleanup.
A Huge “THANK YOU” also goes to the following
Crafty Crew who helped modify our “Visitor Register:” Ann
Hilliard, Mary Jane Ferron, Jolene Bratcher, Pam Hall, Aggie
Brekke, Sharon Mathis and Doris Hamby.
Tons of work goes into these events...thanks to all for
making them so successful!
JOIN OUR
GARDEN PARTY...
We are having a
planting party on Saturday,
May 4, 2013, at
10:00am! It’s the time of
year to divide the plants in
your yard…...so why not
bring them to the club to
plant?
We are looking for
shade plants as well as sun
lovers. If anyone has manure
to spread (the fertilizer
type) bring that too!
We always have lots of
fun and tell lots of stories
(you may want to bring
boots) so come on down
and let’s beautify our
grounds for all the upcoming
events this spring and
summer!

SPRING INTO ACTION
Submitted by Jolene Bratcher, Trustee
With the starting of spring coming upon
us it’s time for the Sisters and Brothers to spring
into some new changes.
Let’s put all the negativity that has hurt so
many behind us and do our best to forgive and
forget and get back to the tasks that have brought
us together: helping each other and our community.
Let’s get back those beautiful smiles
shared between Brothers and Sisters and keep our
communication open as we work together to heal
old wounds and start out again hand in hand and
SPRING TOGETHER and make this club a
happy and joyful place to come and have fun and
get things done as a team!
Let’s SPRING into action and remember
we are a FRATERNAL ORDER and what that
means.
By SPRINGING INTO ACTION we can
make the Port Orchard Aerie #2338 both the best
Aerie and Auxiliary in the state!
We can be known as the “Happy and
Smiling Eagles” if we all work together! I’ve got
my smile on and I challenge you to all wear yours
as well…..it’s the best accessory we have!
BLUE/GOLD STAR DINNER
Port Orchard Eagles #2338, located at 4001
Blue/Gold Star dinner on Thursday, May 23, 2013,
to honor and show appreciation to the men and
women of the military and their families for their
selfless service to our country and/or for their ultimate
sacrifice.
This dinner is one of three events each year
that is open to the public. It starts at 5:00pm and
costs just $6.00.
AERIE 75TH ANNIVERSARY
CELEBRATION
MAY 2014
It seems like far away, but it’s only a little
over a year before we celebrate such an important
anniversary for our Aerie. Not only is it
the 75th anniversary (our diamond jubilee) for
the Aerie, it is the 40th anniversary in this building!
I’m looking to get a collection of pictures
of the history of our Aerie. If you have any pictures
of the past (like old pictures of other locations
before we came to reside in our current
building), pictures of past events, etc., please
bring them to the club and put your name and
phone number so I can get them back to you after
I copy them to make a collage for our celebration.
2013 SHOW & SHINE CAR SHOW
Okay Members, it’s time to start thinking about this year’s Show and
Shine Car Show. With last year being our second show we believe it went
very well. We had great weather and over 100 cars. They especially liked the
laid back format where there was no pressure for trophies or class winners.
The purpose of this event is to provide a good time for those present, make a few dollars for the Aerie
and Helpline, and possibly pick up a few new members.
I will be contacting past committee members and hope to meet on April 4, 2013, to discuss this
year’s show. I encourage any member that has an interest to please attend this meeting (3 rd floor at
6:30pm, or contact our Club Manager at 360 876-2338 if you are interested but can’t make the meeting.
Thanks again to everyone who made last year’s show such a success and looking forward to another
one this year.
Tom Riedel, Worthy Vice President
PS: We still have a few car show tee shirts from last year’s event that we are willing to sell for $7.00
each or two for $12.00. (These funds will be going to Helpline)

GRAND MADAM PRESIDENT DINNER
Dinner with Grand Madam President Sally Villalva at Bremerton #192 on March 4, 2013, was terrific!
She told a short story about a fence and a little boy and his father: she said the boy was being
picked on in school and bullied, so his father gave him a hammer and some nails and for awhile he
said “hammer a nail into the fence ever time someone hurts you or calls you names, to the end of the
fence.” Then for the next period of time his father told him, “now, whenever someone is nice to you
take out a nail, and when you have removed all of the nails come and get me…..”
So, the son went out and got his father when he had completed his instructions and the father
said, “now son, let’s take a good long look at the fence” (it was filled with many holes and scars). The
father then told the son that, “bad things you say to someone can scar them for life, explaining that
even though the nails (hurtful things) had been removed, the holes (hurt feelings, emotional damage)
remained.
What a terrific story and definitely one that we can all take to heart!
AARP DRIVER SAFETY
COURSE SCHEDULE
Rita is back teaching the AARP
Safe Driving Course! It is a two-day
course held for four hours each day
(typically 8:30—12:30pm).
The next class will be held May 23-
24, 2013. There will be no classes held
again until August, September and October.
The classes are typically held on the
fourth Wednesday and Thursday of each
month, so watch your calendar for scheduling.

THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS!
My mom (and yours) always said: “Make sure you have clean underwear on in case you are
in a car wreck!” She also said, “If you can’t say anything nice, don't say anything at all!”
We, Aerie 2338 must practice the latter statement in our computer use such as emails and
facebook postings, especially if we are using the “Eagle” sites. I don’t own a computer, but I have
seen printouts of inflammatory statements. We don’t need to air our dirty laundry for the world to
see! Our moms would be ashamed of us for forgetting basic lessons they taught us. Our Aerie motto
is “If I can’t speak well of an Eagle then I won’t speak ill of him.”
On January 16, 2012, the trustees approved a “PREFERRED CONFLICT RESOLUTION”
document (see below). This policy seems appropriate today. Thank you for working within these
guidelines.
Ken Bicha, Trustee
PREFERRED CONFLICT RESOLUTION
Approved by Aerie Trustees 1/1/12
Please treat each other with respect as you follow these steps to resolve conflicts between individuals
in house.
1. If you have a disagreement or problem with another person, please discuss the situation with that
person only. If not resolved, bring the issue to the appropriate President(s)—Aerie and/or Auxiliary—before
you bring it to the Aerie Trustees.
2. If your problem involves club manager issues including bartenders, kitchen, custodial, bands or
other matters, please discuss the situation with the club manager before you bring it to the Aerie
trustees.
3. For all problems still not resolved, please request, in writing, a date and time to meet with the
Aerie Trustees. Please include your name, phone number, description of the issues in detail including
dates, times and names of persons involved plus all attempts to resolve the issue. The
trustees will respond to your letter one week after it is read in a trustees meeting.
