COURTER, Jefferson Twp. SECTION 1 COURTER CEMETERY The following information was the result of research by Lester H. Binnie, Ruth (Miller) (Kraning) Binnie and Mrs. Orval Burgess, as reported in Cook, Cemeteries of Miami County, Vol. 1. The cemetery is located on north side of 550N between Meridian and 100E. It can be reached at a dwelling, which occupies the site of the former Church of the Brethren, then north on a lane to a farm gate into a pasture. The gate from the pasture into the cemetery is about 1,000 feet northeast of this point. The cemetery occupies a ridgetop with very steep slopes on all except the south side. Sections 1 and 2 have received only minimum maintenance for several years, while Section 3 has had no maintenance for many years. The cemetery was used by both the Brethren and other early settlers. The last burial appears to have been in 1950. These inscriptions were copied from stones in March and April, 1986, by Lester H. Binnie and Ruth (Miller) (Kraning) Binnie, and the inscriptions from Section 3 were compared with records made earlier by Mrs. Orval Burgess, Winamac, Indiana.
