Closure
Gathered around the
Goalpost and ready to
move backwards as
the distance
increases.
Students will start by
being formed into
four teams. There
will be two big teams
that each small team
is a part of. We will
rotate two teams in
every five minutes so
that everyone has a
better chance of
participating.
Gathered around in a
listening position
wherever I call
everyone into before
of scoring. Have a
student or two
demonstrate the scoring
methods or even the
assessment, so they
know what to expect
for tomorrow.
We will start around
the fifteen yard line and
everyone will get two
kicks. We will move
backwards as we
eliminate students and
come out with a
winner. This is just a
fun activity to get a
little practice of this
often unutilized skill
before the skills testing.
Divide the class into
four teams. Have two
of the teams wear
pennies.
Assign two of the
opposite teams to the
sideline where they will
rotate in when I call for
a line change.
Begin the game with an
onside kick at midfield.
Rotate students every
3-5 minutes.
Focus on refereeing the
game and also
coaching. The skills
need to be executed
properly. I will also
change point values to
utilize all of the skills.
I will bring the class
together for closure. I
will give my
observations of the day
dismissal.
and how the lesson
went. I will answer any
questions that the
students have and I will
set the stage for
tomorrow’s lesson.
I will then release the
students to the locker
rooms.
Assessment: Students will be observed for effort and participation. We will also have a
skills test over the skills that are utilized in Speedball at the end of the unit. Today’s
activity is an informal assessment tool that I can use to make sure the students
comprehend the skills that I have taught. I can determine whether or not the class is
ready for the skills test based off of this activity.
Extension and Remediation: The drills and games of Speedball could be extended by
changing the difficulty level of the activity or drills. If remediation is needed we could
change the activity by shortening the field, using a larger ball, using a softer ball, using a
lighter weighted ball, or by changing the rules to where a different skill could be utilized
rather than running or catching.
Homework: The homework for the night will be to go home and be physically active
outside or on a piece of exercise equipment for thirty minutes. To verify this, the
students must bring in some type of verification. This should be in the form of having a
parent of guardian sign a note that states that the students had finished his homework of
exercising for thirty minutes.
