fromtheboard John Mackin, Membership Chair 2009 2009 is shaping up to be an exciting year. April kicks off the driving season with our Spring Rally and our Autocross School and Autocross. Also out first Drivers Ed at High Plains Raceway! Work on the facilities at the new track is proceeding at a feverish pace. As I am sure you all know, paving was completed last fall. Recently some mobile units were moved in to serve as registration, training and control facilities. Also tire placement is nearing completion. Our first Drivers Education at the track will be April 26th. After just a week registration opened over 87 people have signed up. Don’t miss out – there is a cap at 120. So sign up now. It looks like a fun track to drive! One of the things the board is wrestling with are the fees for the new track. Track rental costs for HPR are more expensive than other tracks in Colorado in order to retire the debt in a reasonable period of time. Consequently, you will see that event fees for our Drivers’ Ed events will be higher than last year. Another big event this year will be the Porsche Parade. Rocky Mountain Region is hosting Parade 2009 in Keystone from June 29th to July 4th. If you have not been to a Parade this is an excellent opportunity to go to one in your own backyard. There will be many great events, excellent food, and hundreds of fantastic Porsches to admire in a beautiful mountain setting. The Parade Planning committee is working on putting the final details into place. Registration started early in March but there are still spots left. Again, sign up soon. There will be also be many opportunities to volunteer at the different events both at Parade and at regional rmrporschenews events. At Parade working two ‘shifts’ will entitle you to attend the Volunteer Party where lots of great Door Prizes are given away (like tires). There will be events for everyone: Concours, Autocross, TSD Rally, Gimmick Rally, Tours, and Tech Quiz among others. Please join us for a great Parade. If you haven’t renewed your RMR membership for 2009, please do so. Click “Join” on the RMR homepage and follow the links. Looking forward to a great 2009 Driving Season. See you at the next event!
