Main Road Corridor Master Plan
Working Group Response to Recommendations
street’. It would also provide northern residential neighbourhoods with an
alternate connection into town.
Long term, however, the opportunity to connect Anfield Street across the
Brooker Highway to the Derwent River waterfront and its regional
entertainment facilities should be considered.
Summary of Community Feedback
(For details – see “Report Recommendations, Consultation Feedback & Summary”)
There is support for improving pedestrian accesses.
Feedback suggests that the importance of another Brooker Highway and
Main Road connection is recognised but more research is necessary.
No comments were received regarding the importance of a direct road link
from the CBD to the public and tourist attractions.
Any additional roads across the railway tracks should be considered
together with the impact on the residential community, perceived need and
the strong support for the reintroduction of commuter trains.
Relevant Existing Planning Provisions
Any proposed road extension would require a planning permit application. The
proposal would be considered on its merits, having regard to the Planning
Scheme and to any representations received.
Working Group Recommendations
“Extension of Peltro Street.”
Not supported. The option of extending Peltro Street was considered and
discounted many years ago. Under such a proposal, Peltro Street would
effectively become just a duplication of Elwick Road.
Crossing of the railway line would be expensive.
There would be concerns about the amenity impact upon Anfield Street
residents.
Improvements to the pedestrian and cycle crossing are supported and are
under active consideration for maintenance action.
