Thatcher led a conservative

Reagan.
A suicide car explosion
in the business district of
Damascus on Monday resulted
in the deaths of 15
persons and the wounding
of at least 56 others, state
television reported. There
was no claim of responsibility
for the blast, but
media blamed terrorists
from the rebel opposition
fighting to topple the
regime of President
Bashar al-Assad.
A NATO airstrike in
Afghanistan killed 11
Afghan civilians including
ten children on Saturday,
the result of an airstrike
called in during a fierce
fight with Taliban insurgents
in a remote area of
Kunar province near the
Pakistan border. The attack
targeted a house and
also killed seven Taliban

The children were ages

War talk went a notch
higher on Monday as
North Korea announced it
would pull its workers
from the Kaesong Industrial
Park, a co-operative
effort with South Korea.
The move followed last
week’s ban on allowing
South Korean workers to
cross the border into the
North and return to the
park .
At the same time,
United Nations Secretary-
General Ban Ki-Moon
said on Monday he had repeatedly
urged Pyongyang
to refrain from taking further
provocative measures,
following reports
that North Korea would
carry out another nuclear
test in violation of U.S. Security
Council resolutions.
Speaking in The Hague,
Moon said the North
could no longer “go on like
this.”
The World Health Organization
reported on
Monday it had begun talks
with China about sending
an international team of
experts into the country
to investigate a new strain
of bird flu that had sickened
at least 24 persons
and killed seven. The flu
reportedly behaves like
