5. Address sources and statistical information used for the sampling and
weighting of the ESENER – an assessment by country
The following documentation gives an overview of the address-registers and the statistical
background data that were used in the countries.
General remarks:
All address registers used for the survey are generally being updated, therefore there
are no specific remarks about the topicality of the different sources.
Likewise, the statistics provided by the National Statistical Offices or commercial
address providers for this survey are the most updated ones that were available at the
time of ordering the samples (i.e. November/December 2008). Only in cases where
the main statistical base is notably older (this is especially the case of countries where
the statistics are derived from a national census of establishments), the year is given.
For all address sources where the unit is indicated as “companies”, the screening
procedure was applied (see also table 3.1.1 in the Technical Report for an overview
over the screening countries).
