Five new Aeries, nine Auxiliaries were instituted in 2009-10 The May 22 institution of Aerie 4531 in Kodak, Tennessee, brought to five the number of Aeries instituted between June 1, 2009 and May 31, 2010. William R. “Jack” Reinhold is organizer of Aerie 4531, which came in with 77 charter members. Almer “David” Cline is charter Worthy President. On May 23, Chester Township, Ohio Auxiliary 4521 was instituted with 58 charter members. It was the ninth new Auxiliry of 2009-10. Alice Kornowski organized Auxiliary 4521, whose charter Madam President is Laura K. Matovina The other new Aeries instituted in 2009-10 are: Barefoot Bay, Florida 4527 (Jeffery Patton, organizer); Clarksville, Delaware 4528 (Frank Culbert); Titusville, Florida 4529 (Marvin Cook); Middleburg, Florida 4530 (Billy M. Marrs, William McKinley Jr.). The other new Auxiliaries instituted are: Old Town, Florida 4520 (Mary Patricia Claflin, organizer); Clarksville, Delaware (Shirley Culbert); Barefoot Bay, Florida (Reyetta Patton); Wattsburg, Pennsylvania (Gwendolyn Steelsmith); Moore Haven, Florida (June Riley); Titusville, Florida (Darlena Cook); Middleburg, Florida (Nancy Wisserman, Jean Morgan), Bellevue, Kentucky (Rosanna Robbins). Hanover, Pennsylvania Auxiliary 1406 signed the most new Sisters in 2009- 10, reporting 432. After that came Auburn, Washington 2298 (213 members); Gettysburg, Pennsylvania 1562 (209); Littlestown, Pennsylvania 2226 (201); Puyallup, Washington 2308 (177); Lake Havasu City, Arizona 4299 (176); East Mesa, Arizona 4508 (171); Port Huron, Michigan 3702 (157); Ocean Park, Washington 3602 (153); and Chagrin Falls, Ohio 2436 (152). 2009-10 State/Provincial membership figures: Page 20. Cold War historian Richard Cummings book about that era, “Radio Free Europe’s ‘Crusade for Freedom’: Rallying Americans Behind Cold War Broadcasting, 1950- 1960,” will be published by McFarland this fall, and contains information about the Eagles’ part in the undertaking. In May, Mr. Cummings also wrote an article specifically about the Fraternal Order of Eagles’ involvement in the Crusade for Freedom called “From Mother’s Day to the Crusade for Freedom,” for the website Historytimes.com.
