IN AERIES ACTION BLAIR, NE – Aerie/Auxiliary 3215 members are a force in the community. Last Thanksgiving, they served 100 turkey dinners and delivered 30 meals to shut-ins. At Christmas they delivered food baskets and adopted two local children for the holiday. “Times are tough for everyone, but we dug deep into our pockets and showed others that the Blair Eagles are here and we still do what we do best – helping others,” said Worthy President Doc Holiday. SHARPSBURG, PA – Jade Huffhines was born with Cystic Fibrosis, and last fall her conditioned worsened to the extent that she needed a lung transplant. Though Jade lived in Illinois, her uncle, Bob Stahl, was a member of Aerie 1574, and the local Eagles raised $1,300 for Jade’s medical costs. Unfortunately, she passed away several days later. VERNON, BC – Worthy President John Mayrhofer and Chaplain Vic Grill MOOSE JAW, SASK – The Aerie/Auxiliary 3395 Prairie Eagle Riders held a Poker Derby that raised $1,258.75 for Moose Jaw Union Hospital Children's Ward. ER President Ross Crampton presented the check to Kelly McElree of the Moose Jaw Health Foundation. 10 HOWELL, MI – Members of Aerie 3607 held a Make-A-Wish fundraising event that raised more than $7,000 for a local girl, The event included an AUCE dinner, music by Deveraux Dawgs, silent and live auctions and more. The Detroit Red Wings, NASCAR and area businesses helped with donations. presented a $500 donation from Aerie 3557 to Chuck Harper of the Upper Room Mission. The Aerie and its Auxiliary presented $11,400 in donations to other charities, as well. VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Junior Order of Eagles at Aerie/Auxiliary 3204 have an active helping hand. The local JOEs donated $105 for victims of the earthquake in Haiti, $200 to help local art students take a special trip to New York City, and $300 to help 14-year-old Sam Kennedy become the youngest person to ever climb Mt. Rainier. GLENDALE, AZ – All proceeds from the Aerie/Auxiliary 2843 annual Eagles Chili Cook-Off went to the Eagles Art Ehrmann Cancer Fund. SEATTLE, WA – “Haiti Aid,” a benefit concert and silent auction for earthquake devastated Haiti sponsored by West Seattle Aerie/Auxiliary 2643, raised $4,526.43. The money was donated to Mercy Corps. NORWALK, OH – Aerie 711 joined with AutoGate, Inc. of Berlin Heights to raise $2,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. AutoGate held a silent auction at their holiday party last year. NEW PORT RICHEY, FL – Suncoast Aerie 3153 raised $1,000 for Haiti Relief at a fundraiser after new member Hajo Huelss saw a news report and decided to get involved. Dr Nicholas Toro of “Help Bring Hope For Haiti” accepted the check from Worthy President Gary Spinelli, Hajo Huelss and Committee Chairman Dennis Sabo. EAGLE
PUNXSUTAWNEY, PA – Aerie/Auxiliary 1231’s second annual Bike Ride for Charity raised $3,066 that was divided between the family of two-year-old Kadie Stonebraker, who is battling cancer, and Caring & Sharing for Kids, an organization helping youngsters fighting illness. NEWARK, OH – Each Monday and Wednesday, members of Licking Aerie/ Auxiliary 387 have a euchre party to raise money for the Blind Fund. Proceeds from the events were used to purchase two Golden Retrievers for the blind, named “Liberty” (above) and “Loyalty.” AUBURN, WA – Aerie 2298 presented a grant of $1,000 to Eric Robertson of the Valley Regional Fire Authority for defibrillator and CPR education, and $2,000 to Daniel Mullen of Children’s Hospital in Seattle for its ROCKLAND, MA – Aerie 841’s Mike Gilpin and his crew cooked 39 turkeys and one chicken last Thanksgiving for needy families in the area. Known for their generosity, the local Eagles also donated a dozen food baskets to the Food Pantry AUGUST 2010 Children’s Discovery Research Fund. RIVERSIDE, CA – Members of Aerie/Auxiliary 997 are pitching pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters into a container for the Ronald McDonald House in Loma Linda. ASBURY, IA – The Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center benefitted to the tune of $2,383 from a breakfast sponsored by the Aerie/Auxiliary. CHAGRIN FALLS, OH – For five years, Aerie 2436 has presented the Bob Scott “Love of the Game” award to a local high school football player who has excelled BAY CITY, MI – When employees of the local Carquest were locked-out during a strike and could not get unemployment benefits, Aerie 1010 held a spaghetti dinner that raised $7,000 for them. HALLOCK, MN – Aerie 2617 Worthy President Daniel Woodard Jr. presented $500 scholarships to Caitlin Plaine and Bryce Gillie.To qualify for the FOE scholarships, students must have a satisfactory gradepoint average and write an essay about citizenship, according to Trustee Dale Hanson. CICERO, IL – Last year’s annual charity golf outing sponsored by Aerie 1935 raised $2,000 for Sokol Stickney, an organization that offers recreational, educational, cultural and social programs for local youngsters. “It’s a fight to keep the doors open for the kids every year, and your generosity makes it that much easier,” wrote Sokol Stickney’s Barb Vondra to the Aerie.
