PSY 5236 BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS IN AUTISM AND OTHER DEVELOP-<br />

MENTAL DISABILITIES (2 credits). Covers behavioral assessment and<br />

treatment techniques used with individuals with autism and related developmental<br />

disabilities. Sample topics include assessment and treatment <strong>of</strong> self-injurious<br />

behavior and teaching functional communication. Prerequisites: PSY 5245.<br />

PSY 5238 ADVANCED ABA TREATMENT PLANNING (3 credits).<br />

Recognizing and responding to factors that affect the application <strong>of</strong> behavior<br />

analysis principles within and across community settings. Designing intervention<br />

plans to fit characteristics <strong>of</strong> the social and physical context, e.g., families and<br />

family homes; schools, service agencies and facilities; and places <strong>of</strong> employment,<br />

recreation and commerce. Prerequisites: PSY 5245, PSY 5248.<br />

PSY 5240 BF SKINNER AND RADICAL BEHAVIORISM (2 credits).<br />

Covers B.F. Skinner’s Science and Human Behavior (1953) and some <strong>of</strong> his<br />

seminal articles on radical behaviorism. Also covers articles by some <strong>of</strong> Skinner’s<br />

followers. Includes determinism, private events, contingency-shaped vs. rulegoverned<br />

behavior, and a radical behaviorist perspective on culture and society.<br />

Prerequisites: PSY 5246.<br />

PSY 5241 LEGAL ISSUES AND GUIDELINES FOR THE ETHICAL<br />

PRACTICE OF ABA (1 credit). Covers the Behavior Analyst Certification<br />

Board’s Guideline for Responsible Conduct for Behavior Analysts, legal issues,<br />

<strong>Florida</strong> statutes and rules regulating practice, position papers <strong>of</strong> various pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

organizations related to ethical issues in ABA, basic ethical issues that cut<br />

across human service pr<strong>of</strong>essions, and social and cultural issues. Prerequisites:<br />

PSY 5245.<br />

PSY 5242 ETHICAL AND PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS IN CLINI-<br />

CAL BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS (1 credit). Includes defining acceptable treatment<br />

environments, rights to effective treatment and education, balancing the<br />

rights to habilitation and personal liberties, least restrictive alternatives, punishment<br />

and aversive control, emergency interventions and other ethical issues related<br />

to clinical populations. Prerequisites: PSY 5241, PSY 5245.<br />

PSY 5245 APPLIED BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS 1 (3 credits). Covers characteristics<br />

<strong>of</strong> ABA, selecting and defining target behaviors and outcomes, descriptive<br />

assessment and functional analysis. Incorporates measurement techniques,<br />

graphing data, visual inference, single-subject research methodology and ethical<br />

issues in ABA. (Requirement: Prerequisite course or equivalent.) Prerequisites:<br />

PSY 3421.<br />

PSY 5246 BASIC CONCEPTS AND PRINCIPLES OF BEHAVIOR<br />

ANALYSIS (3 credits). Covers basic concepts and principles derived from the<br />

experimental analysis <strong>of</strong> behaviors and their relation to the pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>of</strong> applied<br />

behavior analysis. (Requirement: Prerequisite course or equivalent.) Prerequisites:<br />

PSY 3421.<br />

PSY 5248 APPLIED BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS 2 (3 credits). Covers behavior<br />

change procedures, generality <strong>of</strong> behavior change, transfer <strong>of</strong> technology and systems<br />

support. Incorporates ethical and legal issues related to behavioral intervention.<br />

Prerequisites: PSY 5245.<br />

PSY 5249 RESEARCH METHODS IN ABA (3 credits). Covers direct<br />

measurement, data display, visual inference, single-subject research methodology,<br />

program monitoring and evaluation, and ethical issues in ABA research.<br />

(Requirement: Prerequisite course or equivalent.) Prerequisites: PSY 3421.<br />

PSY 5250 INTRODUCTION TO ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR<br />

MANAGEMENT (3 credits). Performance analysis, cause analysis, and<br />

intervention selection, design and implementation. Evaluation <strong>of</strong> past and current<br />

research on improving workplace productivity, quality, efficiency, cost-efficiency,<br />

cost-effectiveness, safety, etc. Addresses how performance management uses<br />

behavior principles as they are applied in business and industry. Prerequisites:<br />

PSY 5245, PSY 5246.<br />

PSY 5251 ADVANCED ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR MANAGE-<br />

MENT (3 credits). Examines human behavior in organizations from a behavior<br />

analytic perspective. Includes the interface between OBM and I/O psychology, pay<br />

for performance, motivation, performance improvement techniques, compensation,<br />

quality, job satisfaction and its relation to productivity, and the ethics <strong>of</strong> personnel<br />

management. Prerequisites: PSY 5250.<br />

PSY 5260 SEMINAR IN CONCEPTUAL ISSUES IN BEHAVIOR<br />

ANALYSIS (1 credit). Covers conceptual issues in behavior analysis and in<br />

radical behaviorism. Includes a Skinnerian analysis <strong>of</strong> verbal behavior, free will,<br />

determinism, coercion and aversive control. Students read books and articles,<br />

participate in class discussion, and write and/or present papers. May be repeated<br />

for a total <strong>of</strong> two credits, provided different topics are selected.<br />

PSY 5261 SEMINAR IN METHODOLOGICAL ISSUES IN ABA (1<br />

credit). Covers methodological issues in behavior analysis. Students read books<br />

and articles, participate in class discussion, and write and/or present papers.<br />

Includes low tech and high tech research-based methods, computerized datacollection<br />

systems and graphing data. May be repeated for a total <strong>of</strong> two credits,<br />

provided different topics are selected.<br />

PSY 5262 SEMINAR IN THE EXPERIMENTAL ANALYSIS OF<br />

BEHAVIOR (1 credit). Covers basic EAB research and seminal articles in the<br />

field. Includes basic operant processes, the matching law, higher-order response<br />

classes, stimulus equivalence, scheduled-induced behavior, behavioral contrast<br />

and behavioral momentum. May be repeated for a total <strong>of</strong> two credits, provided<br />

different topics are selected.<br />

PSY 5263 SEMINAR IN EDUCATION BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS (1 credit).<br />

Covers current topics in educational applications in ABA. Includes programmed<br />

instruction and PSI, precision teaching and direct instruction, evidence-based<br />

practice, training teachers to manage classroom behavior and to teach children<br />

with autism and related disabilities. May be repeated a total <strong>of</strong> four credits,<br />

provided different topics are selected.<br />

PSY 5264 SEMINAR IN CLINICAL BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS (1 credit).<br />

Covers current topics such as parent training, teaching verbal behavior to children<br />

with autism, home and school-based programs, positive behavioral supports,<br />

and treating self-injurious behavior. May be repeated for a total <strong>of</strong> four credits,<br />

provided different topics are selected.<br />

PSY 5265 SEMINAR IN ORGANIZATION BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT<br />

(1 credit). Covers current topics in OBM applications. Stresses methods <strong>of</strong><br />

improving performance using functional assessment, performance feedback and<br />

reinforcement. Discusses pay-for-performance structures, systems analysis, and<br />

behavior-based safety specialty areas. May be repeated for a total <strong>of</strong> four credits,<br />

provided different topics are selected.<br />

PSY 5270 CLINICAL BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS SUPERVISION (1–3<br />

credits). Reviews research relevant to specific cases encountered in current<br />

practicum (PSY 5296). Supervisor trains and evaluates clinical competencies, such<br />

as completing intake, screening and general disposition, functional assessment,<br />

selection <strong>of</strong> targets and intervention outcomes, plan development, monitoring and<br />

evaluation.<br />

PSY 5271 PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT SUPERVISION (1–3<br />

credits). Reviews research relevant to specific situations encountered in current<br />

practicum (PSY 5297). Supervisor trains and evaluates OBM competencies, such<br />

as conducting a performance assessment, pinpointing, developing systems <strong>of</strong><br />

measurement, implementing a performance improvement plan, plan monitoring<br />

and conducting a cost/benefit analysis.<br />

PSY 5280 CONCEPTS AND PRINCIPLES OF BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS<br />

(3 credits). Covers concepts, principles and processes derived from the experimental<br />

analysis <strong>of</strong> behavior, definitions and characteristics <strong>of</strong> applied behavior<br />

analysis. Introduces behavior change procedures. (Requirement: This certificate<br />

program course may not be used for credit in the ABA degree program.)<br />

PSY 5281 BEHAVIORAL ASSESSMENT AND PROGRAM EVALUA-<br />

TION (3 credits). Covers behavioral assessment, measurement <strong>of</strong> behavior, data<br />

display and interpretation. Introduces the experimental evaluation <strong>of</strong> interventions.<br />

(Requirement: This certificate program course may not be used for credit in the<br />

ABA degree program.) Prerequisites: PSY 5280.<br />

PSY 5282 BEHAVIOR CHANGE PROCEDURES AND ETHICAL<br />

CONSIDERATIONS (3 credits). Covers behavior change procedures, systems<br />

support and ethical considerations for behavior analysis. (Requirement: This<br />

certificate program course may not be used for credit in the ABA degree program.)<br />

PSY 5283 ADVANCED TOPICS IN APPLIED BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS<br />

(3 credits). Covers advanced topics in all content areas <strong>of</strong> behavior analysis,<br />

as needed for independent behavior analysis practitioners. (Requirement: This<br />

certificate program course may not be used for credit in the ABA degree program.)<br />

Prerequisites: PSY 5281.<br />

PSY 5284 SPECIAL TOPICS IN BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS (3 credits).<br />

Covers current topics in behavior analysis, such as the treatment <strong>of</strong> autism spectrum<br />

disorders, and parent and staff training. (Requirement: This course may only<br />

be used as elective credit in ABA degree program.) Prerequisites: PSY 5282.<br />

PSY 5290 CLINICAL BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS CAPSTONE PROJECT<br />

(1–3 credits). Includes the conduct <strong>of</strong> an applied project, the quality <strong>of</strong> which is<br />

judged acceptable by a faculty supervisor.<br />

PSY 5291 ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT<br />

CAPSTONE PROJECT (1–3 credits). Includes the conduct <strong>of</strong> an applied<br />

project, the quality <strong>of</strong> which is judged acceptable by a faculty supervisor.<br />

PSY 5296 PRACTICUM IN CLINICAL BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS (1–3<br />

credits). Students perform functional assessments, develop and implement<br />

individual behavior plans, train others to implement programs, monitor program<br />

implementation, collect and graph data, and otherwise systematically evaluate<br />

behavior change and outcomes. May be repeated for 1–3 credits per semester.<br />
