IFA Board, Forums, Committees & Task Forces IFA Board of Directors & Forums With three distinct types of members, the IFA has created separate forums for each of the membership categories that all report to the IFA Board of Directors BOARD OF DIRECTORS To provide governance and policy development for IFA. Consists of 39 members, including the Chair and 1st Vice Chair of the Franchisee Forum, the Chairs of the Franchisor and Supplier Forums. Terms are three years and members may succeed themselves for one additional three-year term. Eligibility requires service on committees. Nominating committee presents a slate of candidates that the Board considers and elects. The Franchisor Forum serves in an advisory capacity to the IFA Board of Directors, which will consider the opinions and recommendations of the Forum in formulating and modifying the policies and programs of the IFA that affect the franchising community. It is further understood that the Forum will provide subgroups, for discussion of policy and operational issues affecting IFA and franchising. Membership limited to franchisors. Supplier Forum Advisory Board officers and members are elected by their peers on the Forum from nominations submitted each year. The Foundation is supported through the generous contributions of IFA members and others. All contributions are tax deductible. IFA Diversity Institute 18 INTERNATIONAL FRANCHISE ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP HANDBOOK The IFA Diversity Institute was formed to promote and foster diversity and inclusion within the franchising community and to promote franchising to diverse communities. The Institute also will provide information to assist IFA members expand their diversity efforts at all levels, including franchisees, employees, suppliers and consumers. IFA Board, Forums, Committees & Task Forces Volunteer Participation Volunteer participation from the members of the IFA in the organization is the lifeblood of the association. If you have an interest in getting involved in the association, a great way is through the Board, a Forum, Committee or Task Force. The list below provides a brief description of those available. Once you have determined here you would like to participate, follow the link to the sign up form online. AWARDS COMMITTEE To promote a positive image of franchising by recognizing and publicizing individuals and organizations that have made a significant contribution to franchising and the free enterprise system. CONVENTION COMMITTEE To provide direction and suggestions for the general sessions and educational programming at the IFA Annual Convention. Assist in the development of a marketing plan, identification of sponsorship and exhibits prospects. CORPORATE COUNSEL COMMITTEE To advise the IFA board of directors, other standing committees of IFA and IFA staff on legal issues with implications for franchising. The corporate counsel committee is composed of in-house counsel of IFA members. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE To act on behalf of the Board when Board is not in session. Consists of officers, namely the Chair, 1st Vice Chair, 2nd Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, two past IFA Chairs, plus the Chairs of the Franchisee, Franchisor, and Supplier Forums. Nominating committee recommends the slate elected by IFA Board. FINANCE, AUDIT AND BUDGET COMMITTEE To operate a financially sound and stable organization; to ensure cost efficient operations with fiscally sound budgets; and to provide a safe, secure working environment. FRANCHISEE FORUM To encourage meaningful dialogue between franchisees and franchisors, and to be instrumental in addressing and resolving concerns of mutual interest. Franchisee Forum Officers and members are elected by their peers on the Forum from nominations received by the IFA membership. Membership is limited to franchisee members of IFA. FRANCHISOR FORUM To provide an opportunity for franchisor members of the IFA to discuss matters of interest primarily to franchisors. Membership limited to franchisors. FRANCHISE RELATIONS COMMITTEE To assist IFA members by developing information and programs that promote positive relations and encourage dialogue and cooperation between franchisees and franchisors. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE To provide guidance to the IFA and its membership on the adoption and use of technology. GLOBAL MARKETING GROUP (GLOMAK) GLOMAK will be responsible for directing overseas franchise development support and information services. Members include franchise development executives. MATCHMAKER PROGRAM COORDINATING TASK FORCE Coordinates franchise trade missions through the US Department of Commerce. These missions are an opportunity to leverage tax dollars to grow global franchise network presence. Members include senior franchisor representatives, USDOC representatives and members of the international consulting community. LEGAL/LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE To advise IFA with regard to identification, prioritization and position on legislative, regulatory and legal issues affecting franchising. The Committee shall provide a forum for maintaining a high level of awareness of these issues among the Association’s membership. In addition, the Committee will provide a means by which the maximum resources available can be brought to bear on these legislative, regulatory and legal issues identified as a priority for the Association.
