International Development
The International Development Department assists franchise
companies in developing and expanding their
international operations. The department achieves this
mission by providing technical assistance and information,
along with organizing and supporting franchise
trade missions and U.S. pavilions at selected franchise
exhibitions outside the United States. IFA’s international
programs and services provide a cost-effective means
for franchisors to explore foreign markets and expand
globally; foster greater understanding of global markets;
and promote franchising abroad.
IFA conducts workshops on international issues at its
Annual Convention and other events it holds throughout
the year, one of these being the Annual International
Symposium on Franchising, which is designed to assist
franchisors in enhancing their global development
strategies and tactics.
The department coordinates its activities with the
following working groups;
The Global Marketing Committee, (GLOMAK), is
responsible for directing overseas franchise development
support and information services.
Members include franchise development executives
and consultants.
The Franchise Matchmaker Task Force coordinates
franchise trade missions through the US
Department of Commerce programs. These lowcost
missions are the franchise community’s
opportunity to leverage tax dollars to grow their
global franchise network presence. Members of
this committee include senior franchise system
representatives, USDOC representatives and well
known members of the international consulting
community.
The International Affairs Network, IAN, is a
networking group for all members interested in
international expansion.
INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT ON-GOING
intended to serve as yet another tool for specific information
for members with international needs. It
Promotion & Services – IFA has established working
relationships with several international entities to collaborate
