New Hollywood/Pines Boulevard SunPass-Only SunPass Only Exit Ramp
New SunPass-only exit
ramp for southbound traffic
headed west on Hollywood/
Pines Boulevard
Hollywood/Pines Blvd.
Turnpike Improvements at Hollywood/Pines Boulevard
Project Fact Sheet
Project Description: A new SunPass-only exit ramp is being constructed at the Florida’s
Turnpike interchange at Hollywood/Pines Boulevard. The new ramp will
allow southbound traffic headed west to bypass the existing toll plaza.
The asphalt on the Turnpike will be milled and replaced north and south
of Hollywood/Pines Boulevard.
The new ramp is part of a larger project that will replace the Golden
Glades toll plaza with an all-electronic tolling gantry and widen the ramp
that connects the northbound/eastbound Homestead Extension to the
northbound Turnpike from one to two lanes.
Schedule: Construction began in August 2012 and is scheduled for completion in
late 2014. The new ramp is anticipated to open to traffic by the end of
2013.
Cost and Funding: The total project cost, including the improvements at the Golden Glades
interchange is $19.9 million. As with all Turnpike projects, funding is
derived from toll revenues, not taxes.
Project Benefits: The new exit ramp will help reduce congestion by reducing the number
of vehicles at the existing toll plaza. Once it opens, it is projected that an
average of 5,200 vehicles a day will bypass the toll plaza and use the new
ramp.
Construction Impacts: Motorists may encounter periodic nighttime lane closures on the
Turnpike, generally between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. The sidewalk on the
north side of Hollywood/Pines Boulevard may be closed temporarily for
several months between Northwest 62nd Avenue and Northwest 64th
Avenue. Northwest 63rd Avenue has been permanently closed at the
intersection with westbound Hollywood/Pines Boulevard.
