Based on the information provided, approval is granted for removal and treatment ofmaterial potentially presenting an explosive hazard (MPPEH) and munitions and explosives ofconcern (MEC) at Former Fort Ord, Monterey County, CA. This approval is based on the following: a. The efforts addressed in this ESS involve manual unintentional detonation operations and intentional detonations supporting munitions response actions within Munitions Response Area (MRA) Unit 7 and MRA Unit 10. b. The munition with the greatest fragmentation distance (MGFD) for the MRA Unit 7 is the 75mm M48 Projectile; the minimum separation distance (MSD) for teams for manual unintentional detonation operations is 75 feet (ft) based on K40 ofthe 4.5-inch Mk 3 Barrage Rocket; the MSD for nonessential personnel from manual unintentional detonation operations is 316 ft based on the hazardous fragment distance (HFD) ofthe 4.5-inch Mk 3 Barrage Rocket; and the MSD for all personnel from intentional detonations is 1,794 ft based on the maximum fragment distance (MFD) ofthe MGFD. c. The MGFD for the MRA Unit lOis the 75mm HE Mk I Projectile; the MSD for teams for manual unintentional detonation operations is 47 ft based on K40 ofthe MGFD; the MSD for nonessential personnel from manual unintentional detonation operations is 239 ft based
