The fourth "And thc fourth door of the heart is the<br />

"of the strings of a man's mind; for as in striking<br />

"the harp some of the strings [are found to be]<br />

"thick and some thin, even so some of the strings<br />

"of the heart are good, and some of them are<br />

"bad. The heart is the source of them, but that<br />

"which playeth upon them, and giveth them the<br />

"power of making sound, and that which setteth<br />

"them in motion is the tongue. Now the meat<br />

"which goeth into the mouth is thrown into the<br />

"belly and is ejected in the secret place, but the<br />

"drink which entereth into the mouth watereth<br />

"and pervadeth [the whole body] from the head<br />

"to the feet, and the loins become fat with flesh,<br />

"and muscle, and bone. Now the various kinds<br />

"of meat and drink have different odours, although<br />

"the body is renewed [by them all], and of the<br />

"things which come forth from the heart, some<br />

"are good and some are bad, and some are<br />

"righteous and some are sinful, and some are<br />

"true and some are false, and some are wise and<br />

"some are foolish, and some belong to careful<br />

"prudence and some to vanity. The ear, the eye,<br />

"and the sense of smell are the upper doors which<br />

"are external, and the mouth, which is, in very<br />

"truth, [p. 301] a door, is the door which is internal,<br />
