was the cause of this matter; and they told him<br />

what had happened to his father. Then <strong>Alexander</strong><br />

went to his father quickly, and found him prostrate<br />

and half dead, and his mother a prisoner in the <strong>Alexander</strong><br />

hands of Fures the nobleman, and <strong>Alexander</strong> slew<br />

Fures/ And it came to pass that Philip died from<br />

his wounds, and <strong>Alexander</strong> his son reigned after Death of<br />

him, being twenty years old; and he was of a<br />

wise and understanding nature,^ and the name of<br />

the teacher who taught him was Aristotle the sage.<br />

Now the appearance of <strong>Alexander</strong> was not like <strong>Alexander</strong>'s<br />

unto that of his father and mother,^ and'^ it is<br />

said that his face was like the face of a lion; his<br />

eyes, too, were dissimilar, for the right eye was<br />

black and looked downwards, and his left eye<br />

resembled exactly that of an eagle, and it looked<br />

upwards. His teeth were long and narrow like<br />

the teeth of a dog, and he was strong and bold<br />

from his youth.<br />

And it came to pass that when <strong>Alexander</strong> had<br />
