with troops to the country of India, and [when] he<br />

had arrived there he spake unto the king of India,<br />

"the king, and pay tribute unto him;" [p. 232] and<br />

the king of India refused [to obey] Sarkalos. Now<br />

the king of India had elephants wherein he trusted.<br />

And Sarkelos sent to <strong>Alexander</strong> [an account of] all<br />

that had happened, and <strong>Alexander</strong> took counsel<br />

with his generals in the matter of the elephants,<br />
