sage there among them who had not uttered a<br />

and the Two-horned said unto him, "O Matun,<br />

"hast thou any knowledge of this darkness and of<br />

he replied, "Yea, I will tell thee truly the history<br />

"thereof" And the Two-horned said to him,'<br />

"Tell [it] to me." And Matun said unto him, "I<br />

"have read in the 'Book of Life,' that is to say,<br />

"the 'Book of Creation,' which is called 'El-musika,'<br />

"that is to say, the 'Book of the Law of the<br />

"Histories of Books,' that God Almighty hath [a<br />

"place] of darkness' on the earth, the knowledge<br />

Thsweiiof"of which is hidden, and wherein^ is the water<br />

"which is called the 'Well of the Water of Life.'"<br />

The Two-horned said unto him, "In which quarter<br />

"of the w(5rld is it?" And Matun replied, "It lieth<br />

"nigh unto the right side of the sun when it riseth."<br />

Now when Matun had said this, the Two-horned<br />

spake, saying, "O men, behold the glorious God<br />
