"have been able to hold this mountain as I stand<br />

"in heaven, and thou wouldst not have been able<br />

"to stand on the waters, or dost thou, peradven-<br />

"ture, imagine that thou art standing on dry land?"<br />

And it came to pass that when the angel had<br />

said these things, the Two-horned was terrified<br />

exceedingly, and he meditated doubtfully con-<br />

cerning [p. 146] the water, and he thrust his foot <strong>Alexander</strong>'^<br />

down into it, and he swallowed some of it, and<br />

wished to plunge into it, and he praised God and<br />

cried out to blim to consume him. Then the<br />

angel spake unto him, saying, "O man, why dost<br />

"thou doubt concerning that which God, in His<br />

"greatness, hath created? Behold thou may est<br />

"plunge into the waves of this sea [if thou wishest],<br />

"but cry out to God Almighty, ,<br />

the glorious One,<br />

"to deliver thee out of this place, for there is<br />

"nothing which can deliver thee with God Almighty<br />

"except trust and faith [in Him]". So the Two-<br />

horned cried out to the glorious God, and he paid<br />

homage unto Him, and made supplication unto<br />

Him; and God gave him peace of mind, and<br />

trust [in Him], and He stablished him in that place,<br />

and He made it to be like unto dry land.<br />

Then the Two-horned said unto the angel, "Tell The angei<br />

"me, what wonderful things hast thou seen with a'^mTac'^e.<br />

"the Most High?" The angel saith unto him,<br />

"I have seen' [one] great and wonderful thing,<br />

"and greater than it I never saw anything. God<br />
