il. The History of <strong>Alexander</strong> by Jirjis ibn al- Description<br />

'Amid Abu'l-Yasir, more commonly known as Al- °<br />

Makin, is taken from the MS. of his "Universal<br />

"History" preserved in the British Museum; see<br />

Orient. 813, and Wright, Catalogue of <strong>Ethiopic</strong><br />

MSS. in the British Museum, p. 293. This<br />

manuscript is of vellum, about 13% in. by \\%,<br />

and contains 1S8 leaves, and each page contains<br />

three columns of 32 lines; it is written in a fine<br />

hand of the XVIIth century. This handsome<br />

manuscript originally belonged to one Kesada<br />

Giyurgis, but it was found with hundreds of other<br />

MSS. in the Treasury of King Theodore.<br />

iii. The History of <strong>Alexander</strong> by Abu Shaker<br />

Petrus, ibn Abi'l-Karam ibn al-Muhaddib, more<br />

commonly known as Ibn al-Rahib or Walda Manakos,<br />

is taken from a fine <strong>Ethiopic</strong> MS. (No. 46) in<br />

the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris ; this MS. has<br />

been fully described by Zotenberg, Catalogue des<br />

MSS. £thiopiens, Paris, 1877, p. 243 ff ' The<br />

British Museum possesses no copy of this extract,<br />

for the MS. formerly numbered Orient. 8 1 9, written<br />

in the reign of lyasu I., A. D. 1682— 1706, was<br />

restored by the Trustees of the British Museum<br />

to Prince Kasa, subsequently crowned as King<br />

John, on the 14th of December, 1872; see Wright,<br />

Catalogue, p. 297, No. cccxci.<br />
