"with [other] kings, and didst conquer them and<br />

"didst seize for thyself their kingdoms. Now the<br />

"things which thou hast done have been done<br />

"because these kings [whom thou hast overcome]<br />

"were evil-doers and men of exceedingly great<br />

"iniquity".^ When <strong>Alexander</strong> heard their words<br />

he gave thanks unto God that His knowledge<br />

and power had been given [unto them].<br />

And again he asked one of the Brahmans, <strong>Alexander</strong>'s<br />

saying, "Have ye no tombs wherein to bury any question,<br />

"and woman, and child grow up, and arrive at<br />
