56 The North Central Conference has prided itself on the success of its student-athletes on and off the field of play. In the 50-plus years since the NCC joined the NCAA, league schools have brought home 42 NCAA Division II national team championships and 268 individual national titles. NCC student-athletes have also earned more than 270 CoSIDA GTE and Verizon Academic All-America honors and NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships. The NCC, comprised of seven institutions in North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota and Nebraska, recently had seven national team champions in a span of just three years. The tradition of success is especially strong in women’s basketball, where NCC schools have claimed eight of the last 13 national crowns and reached the national championship game 11 straight seasons All-Time NCC Champions (Note: Figure after champion is UND Finish) 1922-23—Creighton (4th) 1923-24—Creighton (4th) 1924-25—Creighton (7th) 1925-26—Morningside (2nd) 1926-27—Creighton (2nd) 1927-28—North Dakota (Champion) 1928-29—South Dakota State (T-2nd) 1929-30—South Dakota (2nd) 1930-31—South Dakota (2nd) 1931-32—North Dakota State (2nd) 1932-33—North Dakota State (2nd) 1933-34—North Dakota (Champion) 1934-35—North Dakota (Champion) 1935-36—North Dakota (Champion) 1936-37—North Dakota (Champion) 1937-38—Morningside (T-2nd) 1938-39—South Dakota (T-2nd) 1939-40—SDSU & NDSU (T-5th) 1940-41—North Dakota State (5th) 1941-42—North Dakota State (4th) 1942-43—South Dakota State (4th) 1943-44—No Conference Play 1944-45—No Conference Play 1945-46—No Conference Play 1946-47—Morningside (2nd) 1947-48—Northern Iowa (5th) 1948-49—Northern Iowa (3rd) 1949-50—Northern Iowa (2nd) 1950-51—UNI & Morningside (T-3rd) 1951-52—North Dakota State (T-3rd) 1952-53—Northern Iowa (2nd) 1953-54—North Dakota & NDSU 1954-55—North Dakota (Champion) 1955-56—South Dakota State (4th) 1956-57—SDSU & South Dakota (7th) 1957-58—South Dakota (T-4th) 1958-59—South Dakota State (T-5th) 1959-60—South Dakota State (7th) 1960-61—South Dakota State (T-5th) 1961-62—N.
