The North C<strong>en</strong>tral Confer<strong>en</strong>ce has prided<br />
itself on the success <strong>of</strong> its stud<strong>en</strong>t-athletes<br />
on and <strong>of</strong>f the field <strong>of</strong> play. In the 50-plus<br />
years since the NCC joined the NCAA,<br />
league schools have brought home 42<br />
NCAA Division II national team championships<br />
and 268 individual national titles.<br />
NCC stud<strong>en</strong>t-athletes have also earned more<br />
than 270 CoSIDA GTE and Verizon<br />
Academic All-America honors and NCAA<br />
Postgraduate Scholarships.<br />
The NCC, comprised <strong>of</strong> sev<strong>en</strong><br />
institutions in North Dakota, Minnesota,<br />
South Dakota and Nebraska, rec<strong>en</strong>tly had<br />
sev<strong>en</strong> national team champions in a span <strong>of</strong><br />
just three years.<br />
The tradition <strong>of</strong> success is especially<br />
strong in wom<strong>en</strong>’s b<strong>asketball</strong>, where NCC<br />
schools have claimed eight <strong>of</strong> the last 13<br />
national crowns and reached the national<br />
championship game 11 straight seasons<br />

The confer<strong>en</strong>ce was formed at a meeting<br />
in the fall <strong>of</strong> 1921 and the first confer<strong>en</strong>ce<br />
championship was the track and field<br />
championship held in Brookings, S.D., in<br />
the spring <strong>of</strong> 1922.<br />
The charter members <strong>of</strong> the confer<strong>en</strong>ce<br />
were Creighton, Drake, Morningside,<br />
Nebraska Wesleyan, North Dakota, North<br />
Dakota State, St. Thomas, South Dakota,<br />
and South Dakota State.<br />
Several institutions have be<strong>en</strong> members<br />
<strong>of</strong> the NCC over the last 80 years, but the<br />
confer<strong>en</strong>ce membership has be<strong>en</strong> among the<br />
