A ‘GRAND’ ACHIEVEMENT
UND’s 1,000-point club expanded by
two in 2006-07, with senior guard Carissa
Jahner and junior Ashley Langen both
eclipsing that milestone.
Jahner graduated with 1,170 points to
rank 19th on UND’s all-time scoring list,
while Langen enters her senior season
ranked eighth all-time with 1,582
points...and counting.
SENIOR SALUTE
The Fighting Sioux said goodbye to a
pair of decorated seniors at the conclusion
of the 2006-07 season.
Senior guard Carissa Jahner was
named the NCC Most Valuable Defensive
Player in each of her final three seasons
and graduated as the school’s all-time
leader in games played (135). A two-time
All-NCC performer, Jahner averaged 8.7
points during her career and ranks third
all-time at UND in steals (242), fourth in
assists (470) and eighth in free-throw percentage
(.781).
Senior forward Kelsey Maffin played
in 120 career games and capped her senior
season by being named the most outstanding
player of the NCAA North Central
Region tournament, in which she averaged
13.3 points over three games and shot a
blistering 66.7 percent (16-for-24) from
the field. Maffin graduated ranked seventh
on UND’s all-time free-throw accuracy
list (.789).
HONOR ROLL
As successful a season UND enjoyed
on the court, several Fighting Sioux student-athletes
were also recognized for academic
excellence.
Senior guard Carissa Jahner, a nursing
major, was named to the ESPN the
Magazine Academic All-District third
team and the Academic All-NCC team.
She was also named the recipient of the
NCC Inspiration Award.
Jahner was also one of a league-high
seven Fighting Sioux named to the NCC
Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll.
She was joined by Kayla Bagaason
(undeclared), Karla Beck (occupational
therapy), Jordan Holthusen (personal
training, entrepreneurship), Kierah
Kimbrough (undeclared), Cierra
Roebuck (elementary and early childhood
2006-07 RECAP
FOR THE RECORD
A pair of team records held by the
1998-99 national championship team –
UND’s third of three straight titles – were
toppled by the 2006-07 Sioux. UND’s
1,078 field goals made and 2,306 field goal
attempts both eclipsed the previous
records of 1,039 and 2,189, respectively.
UND also set a new team standard in a
108-75 win over Nebraska-Kearney in the
NCAA North Central Region championship
game. That 108-point output represented
the most points ever scored by the
Sioux in a postseason game. In that same
game, senior guard Carissa Jahner dished
out a UND playoff record 11 assists.
