FORWARDS
The forward position may have a different
look at times this season. All of the forwards
are athletic, can run the floor and
handle the ball. Roebuck said the Sioux
will offer a number of different looks
through the forward spot.
Senior Karla Beck, who fits more a traditional
guard role, will play a majority of
time at the three.
“As a senior, we expect leadership from
her,” Roebuck said.
Roebuck expects redshirt freshman
Mallory Youngblut to step up in her first
season on the court. Youngblut can handle
the ball and shoot.
“She has developed into one of our best
outside threats,” Roebuck said.
Six-foot freshman Corey Lof will also
play a role. Roebuck described Lof, who is
from Detroit Lakes, Minn., as athletic and
aggressive.
“As she gains experience, she will be a big
part of our team,” Roebuck said.
Freshman Kirstie Gillett, a Bismarck,
N.D., native, and junior college transfer
Samantha Brekke, who comes from Lake
Region (N.D.) State, will redshirt.
GUARDS
Once again the Fighting Sioux are loaded
with guards who can handle the ball well
and can shoot.
At the point guard position, junior Danye
Guinn will take over. Guinn played last
season as the shooting guard, but Roebuck
said there are a number of advantages to
moving her to point.
“Her size and strength will give her an
advantage,” Roebuck said.
Junior Kayla Bagaason is the projected
starting shooting guard entering the season.
Bagaason played a key role of the bench
last season, and Roebuck said her game
2005-06 Roster
continues to improve.
“Kayla can score from the three and get to
the basket on a drive,” Roebuck said.
Sophomore Alys Seay’s role will continue
to expand, as well.
“Her game consists of penetrating,"
Roebuck said. “However, she has worked
very hard to become a better outside scorer.
Her quickness and aggressive play will
give us a great boost.”
Sophomore Jossy Bergan’s game has also
continued to improve, Roebuck said.
“Jossy gives us a great boost when she is in
the game,” Roebuck said. “She has the
ability to ignite the team when she in on
the floor.”
Senior Anna Leigh Brady is another player
that can give the Sioux a spark.
“She is one of our better three-point shooters,”
Roebuck said. “She works hard on
both ends of the floor and adds to our
depth.”
Incoming freshman Andrea LaFrance
will also play a role this season, Roebuck
said.
2007-08 OUTLOOK
“She can play both the point and the off
guard,” he said. “As she gains experience
and learns the system, she will be a vital
part of our team this season.”
SCHEDULE/NCC
With another solid non-conference schedule
and the always-tough NCC, the
Fighting Sioux have once again a tough
road to navigate through the 2007-08 season.
It will be the final year of the NCC, as universities
within the conference transition
on separate paths.
For Roebuck, who has been associated
with the conference for many years, it is
bittersweet.
“In my years in the NCC, I have been fortunate
to have coached in one of the top
conferences in the nation,” Roebuck said.
“The relationships I have developed are
priceless. It saddens me to see the end of a
great league.
“With that being said, I feel we need to be
able to align ourselves with other universities
that fit our vision for the future.”
And with that future, will certainly come
that same success.
