Time to sign up for
FYA Summer Camp
There are three great Ferndale
Youth Assistance Summer Camp opportunities
for students this year:
•Camp Skyline July 14-19
(overnight camp – ages 7-14)
•City of Ferndale Day Camp
beginning June 24 @Kulick Center
•YMCA Day Camp beginning June 10
(on Eleven Mile in Royal Oak)
Last year, 61 kids enjoyed overnight
and day camps. Each week is a
different theme at the day camps and
there is a scholarship for one (1 week)
session. Parents are advised to turn
in applications as soon as possible,
space is limited. Children who have
attended camp previously will be put
on a waiting list; children who have
never attended camp will have first
priority this year.
All applications will require approval
of a school principal or counselor.

Coolidge Orchestra students show appreciation for teachers
Coolidge 5th grade Orchestra students (above), under the direction of Tim Burke, played
Strings Royale and Swing Into Strings for Coolidge staff during Teacher and Staff
Appreciation week. Both Coolidge 5th and 6th grade orchestra students performed for
the teachers and staff on Thursday as part of Teacher Appreciation Week. The staff was
served lunch in the media center, right outside the orchestra classroom. “I decided it
would be a nice way to say thank you for all of the support we get from the staff by
having the kids give an impromptu performace. After the students got to class, tuned
and warmed up, we just took our instruments, music and stands out to surprise the
teachers (The kids were a little surprised, but excited too!),” said Burke. The 6th grade
orchestra performed Notable Neighbors and Rip Raorin’ Fiddlin’.
