[Strategic Plan] Focus Group for African-American parents rescheduled for April 24 The Ferndale African-American Parent Network is inviting parents of African-American students to attend and participate in an important meeting on April 24 that will lend their voices to the future of the Ferndale Schools. The meeting will be held at the Ferndale High School Media Center from 6-8:30 on Wednesday, April 24. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., followed by a focus group discussion. The meeting was originally planned for this week, but was rescheduled due to a tornado watch. Parents will have a chance to share opinions, views, ideas and give feedback for the new Ferndale Schools Strategic Plan on key issues that have impacted our community, including race and the academic achievement gap. Presenters will be Charlie Fleetham and Stephanie Crider from Strategic Planning consultants and Project Innovations. Adult Ed’s Supervisor receives statewide recognition Jefferson Adult Education Supervisor Sandra Grosso was recently honored for making positive connections to resources for the most vulnerable adults in our state. She serves on a state task force that creates policy and advises adult education directors. As Administrator of the Year, she was recognized for overseeing the second largest adult education program in Michigan. “I’ve always been very active working with the state to make sure adults get the services they need. We work with K-12 school districts, but we MUST also work collaboratively with Workforce Development.” said Grosso. The staff at the Michigan Works Office at the Ferndale Career Center works very closely with Jefferson Adult Education Center students and staff. Grosso and Career Center Supervisor Pamela Bellaver were also recognized for the powerful on-site collaboration between the Adult Ed and Career Center programs.
