February 21, 2013
Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation,
highlights the central nature of prayer as an
essential strategy for people of faith. Prayer
is powerful and brings to bear the resources
of God in His response to our circumstances
and situations.
America, and Alabama, needs revival!
Historically, every great spiritual awakening
has started with prayer. Praying Across
Alabama Alabama is a prayer for spiritual awakening
among Alabama Baptists and other likeminded
people who believe that ta life-changing experience with Jesus
Christ is the only adequate foundation for life or a nation.
Mel Johnson, an Alabama Baptist State Convention state
missionary and a member of our church, will be preaching
Sunday morning, February 24, while our pastor is in the Holy
Land. Mel is the Director of the Office for Disaster Relief.
He will be speaking on prayer as
a part of the theme interpretation
of Praying Across Alabama. He is
no stranger to our pulpit and an
able preacher. Pray for him as he
comes to share God’s Word.
Minister of Education
Thanks to everyone who participated in our Mission:SERVE! afternoon this past Sunday. Thanks also to
those who donated items for the hygiene bags – we were able to put together about 100 bags and will keep the
leftover items to make more. I appreciate the efforts that Julie Parmer, Megan Woodham and Alice Harris put in to
organize this so well.
Other upcoming SERVE opportunities:
Sunday, February 24 – LifeSouth Blood Drive – The bloodmobile will be in the south parking lot from 8:00 a.m. to
1:00 p.m.
Meals Meals on on Wheels Wheels – March is our month to deliver hot meals to the elderly and shut-ins. We need two volunteers
each weekday, except for Good Friday. Eleven days are still open. You can sign up outside the Adult Ministry Office.
Volunteers will report to the Doster Center on their assigned day between 11:15 and 11:30 a.m.
Sunday School leaders – our Spring Training Training Event is coming up Sunday, March 3, 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Please sign-up
in your classroom for supper and/or childcare. You may also call the church office at 365-0606 to register.
Minister to Senior Adults
We have another opportunity to serve our Lord by serving our community in Meals On Wheels in March.
Please sign up outside the Adult Ministry Office. It is such a blessed service to people that appreciate the contact
and fellowship as much as the meal. We all know it is more blessed to give than receive.
I am making plans for some events and trips for the future and would welcome some suggestions. One of
the challenges in planning is determining the response and support of the event. This is a challenge across the
board with all our ministries . Many times we feel like we are “being shopped” in our planning. We understand
emergencies, and unexpected things coming up, but for planning sake we need a level of commitment to be good
stewards of our resources. We know no one would not take the attitude, “I will support it if something better does
not come along.” We desire the best for those we serve, please help us in our service. I am planning something
new for Senior Adult Week May 5-9. Details will follow.
children through foster care/adoption. The class is one step in the path toward
becoming a foster/adoptive parent, meaning that you are not committing
to foster/adopt by taking the class, rather just taking the first step along
the path to see where the Lord is leading. There is no cost to register or
attend the classes. For more information or to register for the class,
