SUNDAY, December 13
THE CANDLE OF Joy
On the third Sunday of Advent, December 13, we light the Candle of Joy on our Advent
wreath. The story of Christ’s birth is surrounded by joy! The joy Mary felt as she
waited for the birth of God’s Son, the angels’ tidings of “great joy to all people” and
the shepherds’ joy as they told of Christ’s birth. The Candle of Joy reminds us that it
is God’s desire that all people have the joy of knowing His Son and experiencing His
gift of eternal life.

A Moment with the Pastor
“The Joy of Christmas” will be presented by our music and
drama ministries on December 13 and 14. It will feature 125 voices
in our Sanctuary Choir, our combined Youth Choirs, the Young Musicians
(4 - 6 grade choir), and they will be accompanied by a full orchestra
made up by our own musicians and members of the Montgomery
Orchestra. It will be a great evening of Christmas music and
drama. Our best advertisement is you. So, please use this as an
outreach opportunity to invite family and friends to come.
I want to thank Wanda Lewis, our Children's Choir workers, and
our children for a wonderful evening of Christmas music. What a
delight watching our children share the joy of the Christmas story!
There are three Sundays left for year-end giving to our church
budget and building fund. Are you up-to-date? Don’t forget Lottie
Moon as well.

Children’s Choirs Christmas Program
The annual Children’s Choirs Christmas Program was
a great way to begin our Christmas music this year at
First Baptist. Our Preschool choirs sang songs about
Jesus’ birthday, the Christmas Star and the baby born in
Bethlehem, and they celebrated his birth as they rang
those Christmas bells. Our Music Makers choirs sang
some traditional carols and songs about the birth of our
Savior. Our Kids for Christ singers sang two beautiful
Christmas anthems, and our Young Musicians choir
concluded our program with the German Christmas
carol, “Still, Still, Still” and the lovely worship song,
“Wonderful, Merciful Savior.”
Thank you teachers and directors for your faithfulness
and hard work this year. A special thank you goes to
Wanda Lewis for doing a great job coordinating the
entire program and for leading our Children’s Choir
Ministry. Thank you, children, for beginning our
Christmas season with your gift of beautiful music.

Pockets of Lostness Fast Facts
Many of the world’s people missing from God’s family live in concentrated
pockets of lostness. They number more than 1.5 billion people,
and not only are they missing, they are missing the opportunity to
even hear the Gospel. Of course, the total number of lost people in the
world is much greater - but those living in pockets of lostness are
hidden behind barriers that shield them from a Christian witness. The
pockets we are focusing on in 2009 comprise:
• About 40 nations and 700 languages
• 34 percent Muslim
• 32 percent Hindu
• 13.5 percent animist
• 6 percent Buddhist
• 6 percent unknown religion
• 4 percent nonreligious/other
Although there is a small percentage of Christian, the rest are a mix of
ancestor worshipper, shamanist, Jewish, Taoist, and Sikhist. About 80
unreached people groups still have no contact with the outside world.

WALK
The Acteens of FBC are sponsoring a school prayer walk on
Sunday, January 3. The Acteens are inviting the whole church
family to join them. They will be meeting in the parking lot
(fellowship hall side) at 1:00 p.m.
Come join us as we celebrate Christmas “South of the Border”
style! All you need to bring is $5 and food for our Mexican feast.
The $5 will help buy gifts for the children of “Pueblo de Dios.”
This is the Hispanic Baptist Church here in Prattville that we will
provide gifts for during their Christmas Eve service. Please sign
up in Sunday School or at Larry’s office .

lobbyist organization that Alabama Baptist support. Our church
contributes to this ministry. For this next legislative session, a specialist
in the anti-gambling issue is coming to the River Region.
There is a need for a rent free apartment/small house for six
months for this woman. She has worked for James Dobson’s
“Focus on the Family.” If you can help, please call the Pastor’s
