A A Moment Moment with with the the Pastor
Pastor
Arlinda and I just returned from attending my nephew’s wedding in our
hometown of Melbourne, Florida. We had a wonderful time visiting with family
and friends. On Saturday we spent time riding around town seeing the homes we
used to live in, our old high school, our favorite eating places and of course,
viewing the Atlantic Ocean where we used to have some great beach parties. One
of the best things we did was spend Friday evening with Johnny and Vivian Cline.
Johnny was our lay youth director. He was my spiritual father and mentor during junior high and high
school. In those days we didn’t have paid staff. Lay leaders took up the responsibilities and took
seriously the task of leadership. Johnny served us well. His character, love for us, love for the Lord,
and commitment to serve were more than enough to lead our growing youth group. He was a great
Bible teacher. God used this man to help guide me as He called me in ministry. I owe so much to him.
Let this be a reminder to all our ministry leadership whether it is in Sunday School, Discipleship,
Missions or Music…God has placed you in a leadership position to influence people. You are
influencing them to worship...grow...and serve. Please see your larger responsibility is helping disciples
grow through whatever ministry you are involved in.
Remember our mandate...Leading our generation to be transformed through God’s living Word.
During the remaining Sundays in April I will be emphasizing the “Serve” part of our “map” for
discipleship. I’ll be encouraging us to serve in ministry in the church and missions outside the church.
Travis
Minister of Education
CityFest CityFest is coming up Saturday, May 4, in downtown Prattville. We will set up a booth to give out
free bottled water, greet people, and give out information about FBC and our upcoming VBS. Cases of bottled
water are needed as are volunteers to help with set-up, handing out water, and clean-up. A sign-up sheet is
outside the Adult Education office. As you sign-up, please leave a contact phone number so we can reach you if
there is a schedule change or weather causes us any problems.
“Bible “Bible “Bible Studies Studies Studies for for for Life” Life” Life” Preview Preview
Preview
Alan Raughton from LifeWay will be with us on Monday, April
15, at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel to preview major changes
coming to the Bible Studies for Life curriculum series. If you
currently use Life Matters, Life Truths, Life Values, Life
Ventures, Bible Teaching for Kids or any of our Preschool
curriculum, this is your opportunity to learn about the
re-launch of this series beginning in the fall. Other teachers
considering a curriculum change are welcome to attend – the
Preview is free. Childcare is NOT available for this event.
Minister to Senior Adults
You can be a missionary! All that is required is a love for God and a love for people. There are many
opportunities for seniors to volunteer for short term missions. We have scheduled a Missions/Ministry Fair for
April 28 in our Fellowship Hall. There will be opportunities to serve within our church, as well as mission
opportunities. Begin praying, “Lord, here I am, where do you want me to serve?” Many of us need some change to
give us excitement and the emotional energy that something new will afford us. I have observed in church work
that those who are the most fulfilled are those who are serving. Our attitude should be that of the 80 year old
lady that I visited in the hospital, who told me she had to get out of the hospital, so she could visit the ‘ole’ folks.
Dave
John
Congratulations Congratulations to Abby Godshall, Braden
Kramer and Alyssa Smith for competing in
the church Bible Drill
competition last Sunday. All
three girls did an exceptional
job and qualified to advance
to the Associational Bible
Drill next Sunday afternoon.
