A Moment with the Pastor
Arlinda and I had a good few days away visiting family last week. We worshiped at
Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Brimingham on Sunday. Our son and his family are
active members there. While it is refreshing to be away it is always good to be “home.”
October 31 is a big day for us at FBC. We are looking for a ton of food for “Can-Do”
Sunday,” brought by 1550+ people. Then we end the day with our annual “Family Fall
Festival.” We still need some volunteers to help, so call the Children’s Ministry Office at
365-0606, ext. 238, and give us a hand. Let’s bring family and friends to both events.
I look forward to bringing you God’s Word this Sunday.
Travis
From the Desk of the Minister of Education
Can-DO! Sunday is coming up this week. October 31 is our “high impact” day in Sunday School. We will be collecting
food and personal items for the Autauga Interfaith Care Center (see front page of the Highlites).
▪ Our attendance goal is 1550
Our food collection goal is 2000 pounds – One Ton!
Please bring a friend with you Sunday and bring at least one item for the AICC! If you are physically able,
please bring your food items to the sanctuary and place them at the altar before or after any of the services. If you cannot
physically do so, simply leave the items in your Sunday School class room.
Shoebox Sunday for Operation Christmas Child will be November 14. Our goal is to collect at least 500 filled
shoeboxes to send to children around the world as part of this important Samaritan’s Purse ministry. This year, we are
providing plastic shoeboxes for your use. They are located around the church campus, along with a brochure that provides
necessary instructions. We ask that you bring your filled shoeboxes to the Sanctuary on Sunday, November 14.
John
From the Desk of the Senior Adult Minister
Grandparents, do you look for teachable moments? Many of our fond memories of our parents
and grandparents are at those teachable moments. I look for them every opportunity I get.
Sometimes though, my grandsons teach me, but that is another story for another article. We are
going to have two events in our church that will be good teachable times.
“Can-Do Sunday” is on October 31. Involve your grandchildren in bringing canned goods to
worship this Sunday. It is a reminder to all that we serve the Lord by serving others by giving
food to the less fortunate. We all need to put our faith into action. Let the grandchildren place the
items in the bags, and pray with them, asking the Lord to use these gifts to show His love to the hurting. Walk with them
to place the food on the altar, demonstrating we are doing this together.
Operation Christmas Child is Sunday, November 14. Pick up a box, choose the items and pack the box together.
Put something special in to give it a personal touch. Your grandchild may never forget that teachable moment when you
said with him or her "we care". Seize the moments as they too quickly pass.
___Children’s Corner
Our Family Fall Festival is Sunday, October 31, from 4:30-7:30
p.m. Although the games and activities are for preschoolers
through sixth grade, there will be something for everyone.
There will be games, rides, entertainment, food, door prizes and
fun for the entire family! This is a great outreach opportunity for
our church, so plan to join us and invite someone to come with
you. Volunteers are still needed, especially the third hour. If
you would be willing to help, please contact the Children’s Ministry
Office or email debbie.conway@fbcprattville.org. Your help
will be greatly appreciated!
As Bro. Travis announced in his column, Kelli Reeves, our Preschool
& Children’s Ministry Associate, has resigned. During
her three years in this position, Kelli has demonstrated enthusiasm,
creativity, a love for children, and most important, a love
for God. Kelli is a very talented young woman who has made
significant contributions to our ministry team. Although she will
remain in our church, she will be missed in the Children’s Ministry.
I hope you will join me in wishing Kelli the best as she
moves into new areas of ministry.
