During the period covered by this report the time-of-flight spectro­<br />

meter worked for several operation periods of each about two weeks<br />

without serious breakdowns. In the past year several modifications of<br />

the apparatus were made C *\ J, By solving some material problems for<br />

the deflection systems which arise under conditions of increased beam<br />

intensities the overall reliability was further improved. Additionally<br />

the outer deflection plates in March 67 were set to the last remaining<br />

hill section of the pole faces. In this new position the much time<br />

consuming adjustment,which was necessary previously, could be<br />

avoided. For the 3 : 1 frequency divider a new phase stable electronic<br />

circuit which is in use since May 6?,'was constructed by members of the<br />

cyclotron laboratory.<br />

The application of a modified version of the AEG ion sources (concerning<br />

the material of some component's of the sources) now allows an operation of the<br />

cyclotron with an unreduced internal beam current of several hundred Ufu<br />

(these new sources were developed in the cyclotron laboratory too).<br />

In June 67 the CDC 3100 was equipped with an additional 8 U - 2k bit<br />

memory. With this extended storage capacity higher input rates (up to<br />

1.10 /sec for 8.000 time channels in the transmission experiments)<br />

or more data channels (mainly important for partial cross section measure­<br />

ments) can be accepted with this new acquisiton system. For both de­<br />

flection systems romótecontrolled deflection plates are under construction<br />

and are to be completed in the early 1968.<br />

As B result on the studies concerning the increase of the repetition rate<br />

a new concept has been worked out ¿~ 2 J'. With a meander shaped upper de­<br />

flection plate of the outer deflector (used as strip~line) a considerable<br />

more economic system (from the power consideration point of view) could<br />

be realised. The use of such a deflection system may allow a power eco-
