The smart card reader is basically a connector<br />
between the smart card and the device<br />
communicating with the card.<br />
<strong>Smart</strong> card readers often have their own housing and<br />
are connected to the serial-, parallel- or USB-port of a<br />
computer.<br />
A reader can usually also write data to a card.<br />
In contrast to this, a terminal is a computer on its own<br />
which can operate stand-alone without being<br />
attached to another device.<br />
