For most <strong>of</strong> these formulae p 020 ft/lb 1/3 . These different<br />

relationships were empirical <strong>and</strong> tended to suggest an accuracy <strong>of</strong> scientific<br />

measurement that did not exist. In fact, when the results are plotted on common<br />

axes, they all lie within a narrow scatterb<strong>and</strong>, as shown in Figure 1.3. Further<br />

information on the behaviour <strong>of</strong> spherical charges <strong>of</strong> Pentolite is recorded in<br />

the works <strong>of</strong> Goodman [1.14], who compiled measurements taken from<br />

experiments over the 15 years from 1945 to 1960.<br />
