Celem seminarium jest przygotowanie studentów do tłumaczenia
angielskiej i amerykańskiej literatury utopijnej z pierwszego okresu jej
rozwoju, analizy literaturoznawczej wybranych tekstów utopijnych i
dystopijnych, oraz zapoznanie z historią utopii i utopianizmu. Planowane
jest przygotowanie do publikacji dwóch antologii w wersji drukowanej
bądź elektronicznej: Amerykańska utopia feministyczna i Angielska
literatura utopijna XVI-XVIII wieku.
The aim of the course is double-fold: to prepare the students for translating
English and American utopian fiction and to study the history of the genre
as well as its most significant texts. It is hoped that depending on
appropriate funding the translations will be published in book form.
Alternatively, a dedicated web site Biblioteca Utopiana may be established
to make the translations available to the general public. The main
“theoretical” objective of this course will be to examine the origins and
structure of the utopian genre as well as its socio-political determinants
and implications.
