“Now, everyone, please raise your right hand. Notice that the first thing each of us did
was look around the room to see if others were making the change, to see who would
be the first to break away from the crowd and disturb the stillness of the atmosphere.
Now, imagine if we all searched within ourselves and decided whether to raise our hand
or not based solely on our own judgment. What if all 2,000+ of us immediately found no
harm in the act, and raised our hands at once? Though the impact of a mass of hands
rising into the air will not necessarily
reverse global climate change or solve
world hunger for that matter, when
applied to a larger effort, this concept
exemplifies the influence, the efficiency,
and the power of individual action.
