work. Persons sentenced to a maximum of six months can apply for
intensive supervision.
Conditional sentence
This sentence is applied mainly when a person has committed a
crime of a one-off nature. This sentence involves a trial period of two
years during which the convicted person shall be conscientious. This
sanction may be combined with community service and a fine. If
the convicted person fails to behave as expected, the sentence can be
commuted into a different sanction.
Probation
Probation is a non-custodial sentence. Probation lasts three years with
supervision during the first year. This sanction may be combined with
imprisonment for up to three months, community service, a fine or
other specific scheme. Misbehaviour can lead to the period of probation
and supervision being extended.
Community service
Probation or a conditional sentence can be combined with an order to
perform community service and unpaid work in a charitable association
or organisation. The period of community service may be from
40 to 240 hours.
Probation with specific treatment plan – contract treatment
Contract treatment is an alternative to imprisonment for up to
approximately two years. It is a condition of this sentence that
substance abuse (or other circumstances that may require treatment)
contributed significantly to the criminal offence. Treatment is given
in an institution or an open clinic.
