do the same rules apply to young people?
A person aged 15 or over and who is suspected of an offence can be
remanded. For young persons aged between 15 and 18 there shall be
exceptional circumstances. Alternatively, the suspect can be placed in
a young person’s institution.
Are only remand prisoners placed on remand?
Persons who are being handled subject to legislation on social services,
care of young persons or care of substance abusers and asylum seekers
awaiting deportation can also be placed on remand.
what does remand with restrictions involve?
This means that the court has decided that there is a risk of the
remanded person removing evidence or impeding the investigation.
Restrictions may include one or more of the following:
• the person on remand may not receive visitors
• the person on remand may not associate with other persons on
remand
• the person on remand’s post is inspected by the prosecutor
• the person on remand may not watch TV or listen to the radio.
A person on remand without restrictions may spend time with other
inmates at certain times of the day.
