Is it possible to receive treatment outside the Prison and Probation Service? It is possible to serve part of a prison sentence in a treatment institution and it is also possible for the court to impose contract treatment – probation with a treatment plan – instead of a prison sentence. Are there special places for abusers? Yes, on 1 January 2012 there were 964 places in treatment institutions or special treatment departments. There are various programmes of treatment aimed at clients with an abuse problem. 18 places are reserved for persons receiving medicine-assisted treatment. 21

Yes, the Prison and Probation Service has 21 sniffer dogs. how are abusers identified? There are specialists at all remand institutions who identify abusers and motivate them to undergo treatment. 20
