Clients in prison and on remand can also be offered study and vocational guidance. Education and training is on an individual basis and support can be given for reading and writing difficulties and concentration problems. During 2011, a total of approximately 1,200 inmates received 2,045 certificates. 23

The Prison and Probation Service uses a great deal of its resources in breaking criminal behaviour and increasing the knowledge and understanding of inmates. In addition to traditional methods, such as education and social rehabilitation, the Prison and Probation Service also uses 13 accredited treatment programmes. During 2011, approximately 5,800 clients in prison and 3,700 clients on probation completed such a programme. 22
