what does vocational training involve?
The Prison and Probation Service works closely with the Swedish
Public Employment Service to offer inmates various forms of training
for the labour market. The Prison and Probation Service also offers
its own vocational training, usually in the form of shorter training
programmes in skills such as fork lift truck driving.
Are there other opportunities for education?
Many locations have a study association that can help set up studies
and meaningful leisure activities, primarily through cultural programmes
and study circles. Such activities include music programmes,
lectures and courses in creative activities and about nature and the
environment.
OTHER STRUCTURED ACTIVITIES
what are “other structured activities”?
Training in social skills is an example of a structured activity in
which inmates can receive practical training in day-to-day tasks. This
includes learning to clean, wash clothes and make food, for example,
but also being able to plan one’s private economy.
Other examples are yoga, pottery and cultural activities, which are
offered in many prisons.
