Costs what does the Prison and Probation Service cost each year? In 2011, the Prison and Probation Service cost approximately SEK 7.6 billion. In 2011, the average cost of having a person on remand was SEK 3,000 per client per day. The cost of a person in prison varies, because the prisons have different distributions of inmates and personnel. The average cost in a normal or high-security prison is SEK 2,831 per client per day. The average cost in a low-security prison is SEK 1,918 per client per day. In comparison, non-custodial criminal care is considerably cheaper. The average cost for non-custodial clients was SEK 203 per client per day in 2011. 26
