Special Programs<br />

a. Tutorial Classes: Any student who is not meeting minimum grade level requirements in<br />

language arts, mathematics, science or social studies may participate in tutorial classes.<br />

b. TAKS: Students who are not mastering the TAKS objectives in reading, writing and/or<br />

mathematics may participate in the TAKS Intervention activities/programs.<br />

c. Title I: All schools in <strong>Aldine</strong> ISD have school-wide Title I programs. All teachers and<br />

students may benefit from the program funds with an emphasis being given to those<br />

students needing instructional assistance in language arts, mathematics, science, or social<br />

studies.<br />

d. Promotional Summer <strong>School</strong>: Students may attend promotional summer school for<br />

reading, math, science or social studies. Each of these curriculum areas will be offered if<br />

the demand is great enough.<br />

e. Extended Day/Week/Year: Students needing additional instruction can be served through<br />

extended day/week/year. This initiative can be funded through various fund sources.<br />

f. Accelerated Program for Kindergarten through 4 th Grade Children: Kindergarten<br />

through 4 th grade students meeting program criteria (TPRI/Tejas Lee results, ITBS results,<br />

report card and STAAR results) will benefit from supplemental instructional opportunities.<br />

g. Dyslexia: In grades K-4, at any time that a student continues to struggle with one or more<br />

components of reading, the individual school will collect additional information about the<br />

student. <strong>School</strong>s will use this information to evaluate the student’s academic progress and<br />

determine what actions are needed to ensure the student’s improved academic performance.<br />

A 504 committee determines the identification of dyslexia after reviewing all accumulated<br />

data including a formal assessment. Students with dyslexia will be placed in <strong>Aldine</strong>'s<br />

Multisensory Academic Program for dyslexia intervention. Students will attend<br />

intervention in accordance with Tier III/RtI recommendations and progress monitoring will<br />

occur weekly. Upon completion of the dyslexia intervention program, students will be<br />

placed on monitor status. Students who have been exited from dyslexia intervention will be<br />

monitored every nine weeks for the first year and every semester thereafter through grade<br />

12. Annual 504 meetings will occur between November and December each school year to<br />

ensure that proper accommodation plans are in place to meet each individual dyslexic<br />

student's needs.<br />

h. SNAPP Program: SNAPP (Students Need a Pat and a Push) is a program designed to<br />

increase graduation rates for at-risk students. Through early identification, the SNAPP<br />

program can reinforce successful and appropriate behavior. Students will be provided<br />

support through individual, group, and peer counseling.<br />

i. VISA Program: VISA (Volunteers In <strong>School</strong>s in <strong>Aldine</strong>) is a program designed to involve<br />

parents in school.<br />

j. Gifted/Talented Program/Encounters: For students who have been identified as having<br />

specific academic aptitude in mathematics, language arts, social studies and/or science are<br />

provided special instruction. The lessons are differentiated and individualized.<br />

R. EXTENDED YEAR/ENRICHMENT<br />

Each elementary school will offer extended year for promotion needs and may offer:<br />

Art enrichment, computer enrichment, science enrichment, etc., as needed, as well as,<br />

Special language programs and,<br />

Special Education Extended <strong>School</strong> Year (ESY) will be provided as a result of ARD<br />

decision, usually at a centralized location.<br />

Bus transportation will be provided for students.<br />

NOTE: All teachers hired for summer school/extended year will be paid $25.00 per hour. Special<br />

Education teacher pay is $35.00 per hour.<br />
