5. If a student is transferring into the district with no prior grades, the student will not be given a<br />
cycle average unless he/she has 4 daily grades, 1 major grade, and 1 homework grade.<br />
6. Transfer grades are calculated the same for students transferring from a school within the district<br />
and for students coming from a school outside of the district.<br />
Students must be in attendance a minimum of 90 days each semester in order to receive credit for a<br />
class. An attendance committee may grant exceptions for extenuating circumstances.<br />
M. GRADING<br />
Kindergarten<br />
1. The grading system below will be used in the areas of Reading, Written Communication,<br />
Math, Science, and Social Studies.<br />
E = Excellent<br />
S = Satisfactory<br />
N = Needs Improvement<br />
U = Unsatisfactory<br />
For Kindergarten, only grades of E, S, N and U should be entered into the district’s<br />
electronic gradebook. If grades were assessed numerically, then teachers should use the<br />
following conversion scale to convert grades to E, S, N and U.<br />
90 to 100 E<br />
80 to 89 S<br />
70 to 79 N<br />
69 or Below U<br />
2. Grades - A minimum of 2 grades per subject per week must be recorded in each nine-week<br />
grading period. All grades must be based on the TEKS provided for each subject.<br />
Benchmark Assessments: All district- required benchmark assessments MUST be<br />
included in the nine weeks they are administered. A district-wide common assessment<br />
calendar will be developed each year and provided to each campus. Benchmark exams will<br />
be given in science, math, language arts, and social studies.<br />
Daily grades may consist of, but are not limited to, the following:<br />
o performance-based assessments<br />
o special projects<br />
o interim work for projects<br />
o portfolios<br />
o group / individual projects and assignments<br />
o hands-on activities / labs<br />
o lab reports<br />
o class / group work (cooperative learning, etc.)<br />
o vocabulary assignments<br />
o learning centers / workstations<br />
o computer activities<br />
o notebooks<br />
o activities from adopted text series<br />
o journals<br />
o writing processes (prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, publishing)<br />
o informal compositions<br />
o listening/speaking skills or presentation skills<br />
