XIII. GRADING OF EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES<br />

A. The teacher of a class is responsible for assessing students for promotion based only on “academic<br />

achievement or demonstrated proficiency of the subject matter of the course or grade level” (TEC<br />

§28.021). If a student is enrolled in a class in which participation in extracurricular activities is a<br />

reasonable expectation of the class, the teacher may consider the student’s participation in the<br />

extracurricular activity when assigning the grade for the grading period during which the<br />

extracurricular activity occurred. A student may not be failed in a class solely on participation in the<br />

extracurricular activity component of the class.<br />

XIV. EMPLOYEE SPONSORED TOURS/TRIPS<br />

Employees of the <strong>Aldine</strong> <strong>Independent</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> are discouraged from sponsoring student tours/trips on<br />

non-school time. <strong>School</strong> time, materials, and equipment cannot be used to aid in recruiting students for such<br />

tours/trips by an employee, the following disclaimer must be communicated to the parents in writing:<br />

"This activity, though sponsored by an <strong>Aldine</strong> <strong>Independent</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> employee, is not sponsored by the<br />

school district or any of the district schools. The district assumes no responsibility for the safety of your child<br />

while on this trip nor will it stand good for any financial loss you may incur as a result of this trip."<br />

Parents cannot pay for airline tickets for students to attend school functions. <strong>Teacher</strong>s and administrators<br />

must seek approval from the assistant superintendent of finance prior to securing airline tickets for students to<br />

attend out of district school functions. Airline tickets for students must be secured through the district,<br />

and not by individuals.<br />

Parents who volunteer as chaperones on field trips must go through the Raptor system before going on a field<br />

trip.<br />

Employees taking students on school or district sponsored trips should work with campus administrators to<br />

follow the guidelines in administrative policy reflected in the following forms:<br />

Individual Eligibility Form<br />

Parent/Guardian Student Pick-Up<br />

Student Permission Form<br />
