Admission Criteria<br />
Determine eligibility by one of the following methods:<br />
•Take and pass relevant portions of the THEA test with these scores:<br />
Writing 220<br />
Reading 230<br />
Math 270<br />
•Have scores which meet THEA exemption requirements on one of the following tests:<br />
Scores needed to meet exemption requirements have been determined by the Texas Higher<br />
Education Coordinating Board. ACT, SAT and TAKS exemption standards are:<br />
ACT: composite score of 23 with a minimum of 19 on both the English and the mathematics tests;<br />
or<br />
SAT: combined verbal and mathematics score of 1070 with a minimum of 500 on both the verbal<br />
and the mathematics tests (recentered scale for tests taken April 1995 and thereafter); or<br />
TAKS: 2200 on Math and ELA and 3 on the essay.<br />
Note: For THEA exemption, scores must be achieved in one test setting.<br />
Placement for college level English and mathematics<br />
The student must attain college level scores in writing and reading and/or mathematics on any of the<br />
following assessment instruments:<br />

To be eligible to enroll and be awarded credit toward state graduation requirements, a student must<br />
pay for the courses and meet eligibility requirements as follows:<br />
• Complete a LSCS application for admission and an Exceptional Admission Program<br />
application. The application must be completed and signed by the applicant, the parent or<br />
guardian, and the high school principal or designee.<br />
• Meet both the state THEA requirements and college-level placement requirements.<br />
• Complete dual credit orientation.<br />
• Submit an official high school transcript.<br />
Articulated Credit – Students can also earn articulated credit.<br />
The Advanced Technical Credit program (ATC) also called statewide articulation is one way<br />
students can earn college credit while in high school. Students who take content-enhanced careers<br />
and technology courses for high school credit may also be eligible for college credit at many<br />
community and technical colleges in Texas.<br />
